Woke up to stormy weather this morning - drove to work on Bike to Work Day for the first time in maybe 15 years. But, did ride to work Monday-Thursday this week. Got out for a five mile ride this evening.

15 miles Friday afternoon/evening, just loafing around the neighborhood and exploring. Found some new-to-me utility easements with gravel and rough grass paths. It'll be a good challenge for my other bike with longer wheelbase and spring suspension fork. It's a bit rough on the rigid fork hybrid, even with cyclocross tires run a bit soft.

And another 6 miles after dinner to retrieve my cell phone, left behind at Sonic. D'oh!

What a nice, quiet, wonderfully soothing ride. About 32 miles = climb in, cruise out. Buckley to MRNP Carbon River entrance.

28 beautiful country miles at the CASA River Century ride in WV . Perfect biking weather - overcast, cool, and a sweet little tailwind to help. The short route went past some exquisite historic homes and farms on very quiet back roads that saw more bikes that day than cars. Lots of happy, friendly cyclists all out enjoying the ride. A lovely morning all around.

Just got back from a real short and simple ride to Deep Run Park from my house - only about 7.60 miles round trip. I wanted to test my beloved C&V '85 Fuji Del Rey (and mainly myself) after my crash last weekend where I got run off the road into the curb. I'm fine except for some healing and scabbed road rash on my left knee. My old Fuji is absolutely fine, unfazed, unharmed, with just some scrapes on the side of the pedal. It's true that "old school" bikes are built to last, and can handle anything!

Anyway, 7.60 miles in a speedy 27:26 and (avg) 16.6 mph speed.

I stopped briefly at a nice gazebo inside the park and took this photo.

This is the intersection of Raintree and Falconbridge on the way back from the park. You are looking south along Raintree Rd. Just beyond the crest, the road just totally divebombs straight downhill. It's a lot of fun too, because you can shift into the highest gear, crouch down and grab the lower handlebars, and pedal as fast as you can - but the speed limit is 35 mph... I have gone over that a few times!

53 miles with my buddy, Steve. I don't know how I got him to do back-to-back 50 mile rides but he managed to do it. His legs were giving out on the last 13 miles so I let him set the pace. Knocked our average mph way down but what the hell, it's only a bike ride.

26.6 miles (42.8k) in shorts. It's finally warming up (well, that's what I get for living in the northern latitudes). Nice ride on the Roubaix.

92 miles @ 15.1mph.

I realized that eastern Long Island has too many drivers with pickup trucks and they all drive way too fast.

What's all the rush?

Rained cats and rats late this morning. Had already avoided club ride because of forecast.
But did get out for a twenty mile ti ride in the middle of the afternoon after the weather cleared and the roads dried. Some very nice smooth-surfaced rollers about ten miles to the south.

An all night rain brought with it some very high humidity, heat and wind. Not a good start for a 60 mile ride attempt. To top it off, they had a supported running event at the park this morning and runners were scattered all over the loop. Riding in the subdivision was nice but for some reason, traffic was a little heavier than on a normal Sunday morning. Around 10:00 am, the wind calmed down and heat and humidity started to get to me. Ended the ride at 40 miles. Seemed like there were just too many things going against me this morning.

20.1 miles (32.3k)-(I rode around the block just to get the odometer to turn to 20). Wore the sleeve covers and took them off after the first 8 miles. Love the warmer weather. Lots of weekend riders coming out now.

55 miles in the Tour de Madison (VA) yesterday on a demo Specialized Roubaix Expert. I wanted to do the full metric century, but had to return the bike later that day. It was Florida-like windy in addition to the hills and valleys, just so we could suffer a bit more. About 400 riders pedaling and grunting through scenic Madison County. I can't say enough about the double suspension and disk brakes of the Roubaix. The ride is silky smooth while maintaining performance; this is a serious machine. The final 'bonus loop' added 8 miles to the intermediate circuit, and had a decent 4 mile climb before I flatted out. I got a little misty eyed when I had to return the bike after the tour, but it couldn't spoil the fun I had.

P.S. The dealer told me the 2018 Roubaix Pro is going to be released shortly, so the wait may not be that much like longer.

32 tandem miles today as my stoker and I rode to and from the Broad Ripple Arts Fair where we volunteered on behalf of the local cycling Club (CIBA) at the Pedal and Park station - free bike parking for fair goers.

45 miles Sunday afternoon/evening. Intended to make it all a fast ride on a rural route but asthma (forgot my inhaler -- usually I carry a spare in my tool bag but not that night) and a balky derailer conspired against me. So after 15 miles I changed plans and joined friends for a more casual nighttime ride. I did manage to break that 15 mph barrier on a tough rural route, but didn't complete the 20 mile circuit some I'm not gonna count that one.

Rode 23.3 (37.5k) hard and fast miles with the group. Some of us are in our 70s, the others in their 20s. I was pushing 18mph up some inclines keeping up with the younger guys.

I did my first group ride today. There was not much wind and I think I like group rides. It was a recovery ride. The weather was good not too hot. I am looking forward to many more group rides.

A nice 35 mile recovery ride on the Trek after Friday and Saturday's mad dash on the demo Roubaix. I took measurements of both bikes (both 58 cm frames). Even though the 'reach' (which I define as seat center to center of handlebars) of both are almost identical (Ruby is slightly longer), the Roubaix sits a full inch higher than the Domane! I'm just over 5-10" and like riding larger frames, and I think I can make the Ruby work. But man - it is one tall endurance bike!

I am going for a professional fitting on the Trek next week at UF Ortho Center to get an opinion (and adjustment if necessary) on the Trek.

23.0 miles (37.0k) on a beautiful day. The wireless earbuds tend to cut out with the phone (MP3 player) being in the back pocket but I made it work.

No ride yesterday. This morning was overcast and breezy; excellent biking weather. Did another 50 mile ride, 25 with Steve and Frank and 25 with Frank. If the weather permits, I think I'll do it again tomorrow.
