Bizarre Work Stand Park Tool FRS-1

FRS = means frame repair stand, for straightening steel frames. It has the work stand adapter, so it also functions as a work stand.

I picked up this work stand today, its pretty complete, but missing a couple of small parts. I'm going to replace one of my work stands with this one.

Since I only dabble with steel frame bikes, its perfect for me. No instructions, came out of a bike shop a while ago.

Anyone use one of these and any success?

I'll post pictures as soon as my computer cooperates....

Parts list and diagram can still be found on their website.

Velocult had one and I inquired about it a couple of times, they said it was a challenge to work with for straightening frames. It didn't really hold a frame secure enough to really wrestle with it but worked good for evaluation if you had all the parts for the gauge arm and the capability to force it into submission from there.

I'm sure it would make great regular repair stand with all the right parts and bolted to the floor.

Cool, I didn't know they had that. Can you show us how it works?

They're fine for most frame alignment work, provided they're bolted securely to the floor. However, if you want to be very accurate, you need a surface plate, gauge blocks and dial indicators to perform the measurements. I've owned an FRS-1 for about 35 years and have no complaints.

T-Mar, do you know if the slide adjustment attachment on a DAG tool fit the FRS-1? That is the one main piece I am missing. I have the rod, but am missing the slide (part #8 below). I have #9 and #10.

I will either make some kind of wood base, or attach it to my concrete floor. I just have to be SURE about the location before drilling into my concrete floor.....

I have contacted Park Tool on getting parts. They have always helped in the past, but given the age and the fact they are no longer making this stand, I am probably SOL.

Looks like it'll be a nice, solid repair stand once bolted to the floor if nothing else.

Sorry, I don't use Park's derailleur hanger alignment gauge. I got the Shimano tool when they introduced SIS in 1985. Offhand, I can't think of anybody else locally who might one, so that I check the fit on my FRS-1. However, I checked the dimensions of my FRS-1 arm at several points along its length and measured 0.880" to 0.883" square. Hopefully, some other members have a DAG tool and they can measure the dimensions of the arm for comparison. measure yours too, in case they changed the dimensions of the arm. The slider isn't a very tight fit, as the play is taken up by the set scews, once it's positioned.

I have the DAG-2. The slide internal dimensions are 0.8" square, and the piece it fits onto (#4) is 0.75" square.

The tool tray looks a lot like the one that came with my Park stand. Same bushing, same clamping mechanism, different color. POS, maybe but mine has lasted for 25+ years. What leads you to believe that it is not original?

I’ve got a similar era stand and it had a nice chrome steel tool tray. When I get home, I plan to “borrow” that tray.
