New Sturmey Archer 13/32" drive side nuts keep stripping
A lot of new bikes coming back to our shop because these are stripping out. After a couple flat fixes the threads are usually visibly worn. I don't think they are being overtightened at the factory, they actually come very loose. They just seem to be made with such a flimsy metal. Are there any better alternatives out there for 13/32" nuts?

You need the special guide nut for the RH side, so...no. If you work at a shop, call SunRace NA and let them know about the problem. They will likely replace defective units.

What do you mean "special guide nut?" It is just a normal nut, the indicator chain does not touch it at all. There is a plastic pulley wheel that fits onto the nut to guide the indicator chain.

Posting a picture of the bike(s) in question may be helpful. There are a handful of shift attachments for SA hubs.

Usually used in conjunction with a fulcrum lever.
I have encountered some soft nuts that seem to strip easily. Better the nut strip than the axle.I think this is by design.

May just be a bad batch of nuts. I have three bikes with Sun Race Sturmey hubs and have not had a problem. Over 20,000 miles on the 5 speed hub on my commuting bike. I tend to crank the nuts down tight too.

I had the same problem with those cheap non-dome nuts that come with the hub. Throw them out. That soft is not better. Pffft
However, the harder better SA dome nuts have had NO problem, there's 2 axel sizes. I have them on all my hubs. They should be greased every time. Use a good lockwasher so they grip without too much stress. With that plastic cap pulley part, maybe you can drill or file some of the dome nut off. I had troubles with that pulley and stopped using it.
