Can I put 37-584 tyres on a 559 rim?
Hi. Been reading bikeforums.net for a cuple of years now, but I had never opened a thread before lol.

Probably because they don't know what the numbers stand for. I've owned cars for decades but have been so uninterested in them compared to my bikes that, while I would guess that the numbers on my car tires have the same significance as the numbers on my bike tires, I don't know for sure.
To the OP: the only tires you can fit to rims that are designated 559 are tires designated 559. The other number---37---refers to the (approximate) inflated width of the tire.

Doesn't interchange with each other.
A quick basic understanding of it: 559 is 26" as 700c is to 29" . 584 = 27.5.

Absolutely you can. The tires will be bigger than the rim so they will not inflate but they will physically fit. 😬

Well if you are going to be pedantic about it, 622mm is also equal to 28” tires. Not that I disagree with using ETRTO sizing for all bicycle tires. If we could only make everyone forget the old system.

622mm is equal to 28" tires? what size tires are those? All widths can't possibly be 28". 700mm = 27.5" and that would be about a 35mm width tire. Although we can't use "27.5" because that is reserved for 584mm or "650b" wheels.

The 27.5” designation is a very recent development. The 650B wheel has been around for a very long time but it wasn’t called the “27.5er” (a mouthful) until the last 10 to 15 years. Mountain bikers can’t seem to deal with metric.
