Which brake pad holders for my bike?

I have a 2008 Giant Cypress. I currently have the stock brake pads, which look like these:

I want to buy V-brake pad holders that are compatible with Kool Stop Salmons cartridges/inserts. Which ones will be compatible with the v-brakes I have?

Any ebay links are welcome! Or any other store that ships internationally...

I thought I knew everything about v-brakes until I started searching for new pads!

Thanks in advance!

Just to be clear:

There are two types of brake pads, cartridge and bolt-on. (quoted from https://www.jimlangley.net/wrench/brake1.htm)

I now have bolt-on pads, but want to "convert" to cartridge (inserts). Which pads with holder are compatible with the v-brakes I have?

Thank you.

I'm not sure about a cartidge pad for V-brakes, but you can buy Kool-Stop salmon or dual-compound pads in the same configuration as your current pads. I run them on my cyclocross bike and love them. I use the one called "MTB Pad" found here: https://www.koolstop.com/brakes/index.php

Yes, I knew that. I just wanted to change my configuration mainly because it's easy to change cartridges. With the threaded type you have to set it up every time. Plus, cartridges are cheaper and more green.

On the kool stop website they mention a "V-Type Brake Holder". Is that what I need?

Thanks for replying! :-)

Yes, I'm almost certain it is and the replacement pads are shown just above the picture of the holder as "V-brake Insert".

I recently installed a set of Shimano BR-R550 cantilever brakes on a new bike and the pads and holders look identical to what you are looking for and these are refered to as V-brake type pads despite being on cantis.

Great. I just can't find this holder. What do you think about this:

https://cgi.ebay.com/Kool-Stop-Dual-C...item5ad970c9e4

I think this will fit, but I'm not certain...

Yeah, that it.

Here is another source: https://www.jensonusa.com/store/produ...+Tectonic.aspx

Edit: BTW, both Shimano and Tektro make good pad holders that take the same replacement insets and the Kool Stop inserts will fit either of them. The Shimano holders come with decent pads and the Tektor holders come with rather poor pads but either can be "upgraded" to Kool Stops.

So the Kool Stop Tectonic have the same holder dimensions as the ones I mentioned earlier?

Where are you located? Many bike shops sell both the replacement inserts and sets of holders with the inserts installed. If you can get to a decent shop, they should have what you need and be sure they fit.

I'm in Kiev, Ukraine. I couldn't find the pads+holders in the usual shops I go to. Plus Kool Stops are not sold here. I think I'll order the pads + holders I mentioned earlier.

Thanks for the help HillRider!

OK, that explains the problem! The pads and holders we've been discussing should do what you want.

Yes, everything is included with that set - you will be OK.

This will be perfect. I have this one, and it is great. Easy to change pads, but order straight salmon when replacement time comes.

Thanks Wanderer, and that's exactly what I had in mind! These are the ones I was thinking of ordering.
