Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I love the use of a half-link chain. Was one chain long enough?

Derp. Amazon shipped the wrong chainring. I ordered a 130mm 50T silver. They sent a 110mm 56T black. There wasn't even an option for a 56T. Must be old stock.

I do kinda wish I had the legs to spin this.

56T? Wow.

Don't remember which was technically most recent because they were all the same day-ish, but bought the red and yellow camo tape, yellow Jagwire kits, and MISMO CarbonSpeed Team wheels and finally installed them after 3 months. Can't justify an overhaul on things that aren't worn out. Without a chain here as I'm getting ready to wax it.

50T Vuelta SE Plus ramped and pinned chainring to replace the 56T Amazon mistakenly sent back on Dec 20, above. Shifting seems better than with the original Suntour plain 52T chainring.

picked up a rapha winter riding jacket at the tail end of the annual, post-xmas sale (hadda gift voucher so the grand total w/shipping was $26) and a danny shane tartan plaid jersey.

https://dannyshane.com/collections/t...ts/rainier-red

time to see what the fuss is about and the tartan plaid graphics might just drive the cars to the other side of the road when passing. here's hoping.

But the Przewalski shorts popped up on my Facebook feed for only $5 and change on a one-day sale -- apparently targeted to some folks who allow tracking by Amazon, Facebook, etc. That's why I stay logged into Facebook, Amazon and my Google account full time on Chrome -- just for the occasional special sales. (For privacy and to escape the filter bubble I use Firefox, DuckDuckGo and Startpage.)

I figured at five bucks I had nothing to lose. I wasn't expecting much. But I'll be darned -- these Przewalskis are good shorts for the money. I'd compare them to my AeroTech Pro shorts in terms of quality -- just good, basic, no-frills shorts.

In some respects the Krzewalski shorts are more refined than the AeroTech Pro:
  • The fit is more snug, with more compression -- I'm 5'11", 160 lbs, a medium with skinny legs and these are the first medium shorts I've tried that actually have some compression effect on me. Some folks might do better with a large, if they're on the border between medium and large in most shorts.
  • They sag less in the butt than my AeroTech Pro, which I often need to hitch up.
  • The thigh grippers are micro-dots along a wide hem, which should be less irritating to folks whose skin gets chafed from other grippers.
  • The logo is quite nice for this price point, with highly reflective lettering on the rear left hip and left thigh. Nobody will be able to read the name but the script looks good.
  • The padding is unusual, with a smoother surface texture, dimpled like a golf ball, variable density as needed but no fussy 3D sculpted stuff like most short that resembles a graphic representation of franks and beans.... johnson and the twins... twigs and berries... you get the idea. The padding under the sit bones is much thicker and denser with less compression than anything else I've worn -- and darned if it isn't comfortable. I usually prefer the AeroTech Pro with the minimalist black/tan pad that feels more like old school leather chamois than most pads. But I can see how the Przewalski pad would be comfy over a long ride on a firm saddle. Seems to breathe and wick well too.
I'll need a few more rides but so far I'm liking it. Even at the full price of $25 these are worth trying. And they have a twofer special with the second pair at half price.

BTW, the vendor didn't contact me personally for this sale or review. Several of us got the same discount code on Facebook but the other folks said the code didn't work for them. It worked for me when I entered it at checkout. I don't do fake reviews on Amazon and am pretty blunt in reviews even for products I've been invited to review -- which may be why I've never had a repeat request from any vendor.

Anyway, if you like AeroTech Pro shorts or similar budget shorts, you'll probably like these even with the unusually thick and firm pad.
have purchased 4 pairs of the przewalski bibs in the last two years at $25.99 apiece so far. averaged 6k miles the last two years with plenty of saddle time, centuries and big-time climbs wearing them.
a little thicker pad/chammy than nearly all other manufacturers but it pays off on those longer, harder rides. i machine wash them in hot water and line dry them. no noticeable deterioration in the first
batch i bought (can't even tell them apart where i normally could with other bibs purchased at different times). no chafing issues either. only real complaint is that there's a little extra material in the front
so they're not as pro looking as bibs costing 4x+ the money because of that. i can live with that since jerseys, like frames, live and bibs, like components, are meant to be replaced. i will likely pick up
another two pairs before summer 2019 just to have once riding season really kicks in so as to stave off doing laundry.

Yup, after a few months with the Przewalski shorts I like 'em well enough to try their bibs. Only one minor nit -- after some use the thigh hem no longer grips well, but my thighs are so long and skinny it's hard to find shorts that fit properly. I need a medium, but l need longer leg length and a snugger fit around the legs. Black Bibs are pretty close so those are the only bibs I've tried so far.

But the Przewalski padding is the most comfortable I've tried, especially for long indoor trainer sessions or longer casual rides when I tend to sit more heavily in the saddle.
