Yikes, that’s a lotta snow. We have had zilcho this winter, which is fine by me.
Today, I road tested a new set of brakes (fender1 thanks!) and a new dynamo light (thanks online German bike shop!) on my VO. Perfect riding weather, Around 60, sunny, no wind. Brakes passed with flying colors as I locked the rear wheel on a fast dirt descent when accosted by a panicked squirrel. Both rider and squirrel unharmed.

I had planned on 40 miles for yesterday's ride.
It was one of those days that weather, me, bike, and energy levels all synched up.
My missus called and wanted to meet on the trail and ride some too.
I already had 30 miles when I meet her and we did 21 together so I had 51 on arrival back home.
I decided to go for more on my own so I had a snack and hopped back on the bike.
Well, I hit 60 and didn't feel like stopping.
Why not try for 70?
At 70 I thought I'll do 3 more to commemorate an upcoming advancing geezer hood birthday.
So it was a long but satisfying unplanned 73 mile ride.
Usually 40 is my long ride but circumstances worked in my favor.
I rode south from the northern portion of Dallas county to downtown Dallas, through downtown to Deep Ellum that has lots of wall murals.
Then I picked up the Santa Fe trail that leads to White Rock Lake.
I rode the While Rock Lake trails for a while, met up with my Missus and repeated some more of the White Rock trails.
After taking off again from home I rode some northern trails and then began to zig zag through familiar neighborhoods to rack up the miles.
My Rivendell Sam Hillborne is a very comfortable bike sporting 700x 44 tires that help a lot on the bumpy streets.
I'm still tired and a bit sore today but my missus wanted to ride to the library in 85 degree temps so we got in 10 more miles today. I think that helped the soreness.

An unexpected dry day on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington State got me out for 31 miles on this Ciocc Mockba 80, currently set up as a single speed. This was my first outdoor ride since early February and it felt great to be back on the road.

This morning was the semi-annual Moon Valley Yard Sale, and I limbered up the chrome Schwinn cruiser, clipped on the front folding baskets to complement the big Wald handlebar & rear baskets, hitched up the cargo trailer, and was pedaling just after sunrise.
Not as many houses participating this year, but still a good morning for a ride. Loaded the following onto the bike + trailer by the time I was done:
Didn't see much in the way of bike items for sale, other than a couple Huffy cruisers and an all-original Bicentennial Schwinn Varsity.
Only 13 miles, but a quality workout pedaling and obtaining/towing all that stuff. Good day for a ride.

- Samsonite square card table
- deluxe-size microwave oven
- five bath mats (they were cheap, and Dear Wife wanted to stock up)

Just saw in pic that right front brake pad needs straighten.
Old oil man HL Hunt's mansion at White Rock Lake made to look like Mt Vernon. I think I read he made it larger than George's original.
The squirrel is adjusting the bit of too much upward tilt on my saddle.
Or maybe he's checking if that rear bag is one of those great Acorn one's.

The nice weather days seem to outnumber the bad weather days lately. No complaints here! Did some swapping of wheels and tires on the Velo Orange, prepping for an upcoming tour. Shakedown figure 8 ride following the Moorman River in Albemarle County.
Breakheart Rd. Smooth sailing right here, but there is a short double digit climb to get to this point. A lot of the roads here have ominous names, I think to scare off tourists
Found a new road to explore. Expected it to dead end quickly, but it kept going and just when I started to think it might connect to a known road, I see the “no bikes” sign!

Fairly nice weather yesterday so I got some different tires on my Schwinn Mesa GSX so I could ride it, ended up going with some lesser 2.30s cruiser nobbies out of my parts bin a bit big but they seem to work OK and are fine on snow and ice. Went for a short ride still a lot of snow on the roads a trails.
Going up hill in the snow is starting to get a bit old.
Looks like were going to have snow piles till late May or June in places.

Sunday weather prediction was a pause in the rain storms we've been having in Portlandia, so @Andy_K and I planned for a 10am departure on a 42 mile ride. Within minutes we discovered that the weather prediction was wrong. Around 15 miles out we decided to cut the ride short. 27 miles were done, almost all in messy rain. There was a lot of crap on the road. Andy had a flat about 8 miles from my house, and noted that my backside looked like chunks of mud were ready to fall off.

Today saw two rides in two different directions on two different C&V-eligible bikes on two completely different travel surfaces.
The first ride was a simple pedal to get mail & packages - on steep singletrack trail on the north side of Shaw Butte. The relatively new to me but 20+ year old Haro creaked and ticked a bit on the scree and babyheads (similar to the rider), but got me there in its reliable double-sprung boingy way. After recent rains, the desert is remarkably green - just hoping the early summer doesn't see nasty brush fires.
Fortunately, the Amazon orders and the important business items fit nicely in the trunk.
After bumping home on the Haro, I swapped bikes and rolled out on the heavy chrome cruiser (last seen Saturday on yard sale duty) for a trip along quiet paved side streets (with an unavoidable 17% grade tossed in) to pick up prescriptions. The plethora of colorful LED lights twinkled in the twilight as I cruised, and the Nexus 7 helped a bit on that steep climb. Enjoying the "chamber of commerce" weather while it lasts before it's replaced by the "chamber of horrors" weather coming all too soon and lasting into early fall.
About 10 enjoyable miles total.

I don't seem to get much time to post recently - the combination of a new job, son (sort of!) leaving home and needing jobs in his new home doing seemingly every weekend is occupying my time at the moment. Loving seeing the rides that are posted here though, especially the spectacular snow scenes recently.
But I'm riding as much as possible, and this season I'm riding Audax UK's Randonneur Round the Year award - a 200k ride every month, and ridden on C&V bikes of course. For March's ride I took one of my BSA's out for the day and headed up through Clevedon and Portishead to Bristol, went around the harbour, then up onto the Cotswolds past Dyrham, going through West Kington and Marshfield before dropping down the valley of St Catherine and into Bath. Went through the centre of Bath (traffic has improved considerably since the LEZ started last year incidentally) before taking the Bath-Bristol path back into Bristol, then cut through Ashton Court Estate before taking the Festival Way and Strawberry Line paths back towards Weston.
Nice ride, just over 12 hours on the bike, weather was typically British late winter with grey skies and a cold wind, but the rain stayed off and the thick jacket was up to the cold.
And for those of us who like a bit of trivia, who knows (without googling?) what music video was filmed in West Kington?

But I'm riding as much as possible, and this season I'm riding Audax UK's Randonneur Round the Year award - a 200k ride every month, and ridden on C&V bikes of course. For March's ride I took one of my BSA's out for the day and headed up through Clevedon and Portishead to Bristol, went around the harbour, then up onto the Cotswolds past Dyrham, going through West Kington and Marshfield before dropping down the valley of St Catherine and into Bath. Went through the centre of Bath (traffic has improved considerably since the LEZ started last year incidentally) before taking the Bath-Bristol path back into Bristol, then cut through Ashton Court Estate before taking the Festival Way and Strawberry Line paths back towards Weston.
Nice ride, just over 12 hours on the bike, weather was typically British late winter with grey skies and a cold wind, but the rain stayed off and the thick jacket was up to the cold.
And for those of us who like a bit of trivia, who knows (without googling?) what music video was filmed in West Kington?

Bodies of Water. One of my favorite winter rides is out to the Point Reyes Lighthouse and back. I pass Tomales Bay and Drake's Estero on my way to the lighthouse on the point which protrudes several miles into the Pacific Ocean.

Rode downtown for my weekly shift at the Rusty Spoke co-op. The kind of glorious sunny t-shirt & shorts weather that makes one say "I don't even mind the headwind." And the 40-year-old Rans Nimbus behaved well, even with a couple used tires on the front rack and a bunch of tools + parts for donation in the rear bag & basket. The evening ride home wasn't bad either - still in T-shirt & shorts, albeit cooler.
