What is your preferred jockey wheel size?

What is your preferred derailleur jockey wheel size?

Do you think it matters? Or is any size OK?

Round.

And yes, size does matter, but that’s a separate issue.

Buy a decent derailleur and it will come with the correct size pulleys. You may have more significant issues to ponder.

I don’t think it matters, but you certainly can’t fit any size you feel like in any mech. If replacing I would just fit the same size as original.

I like my blue bullseye for the lower wheel. Still using centeron upper wheel.

Edit added: I think it is 10t.

If I'm loosing performance because of the size of my Jockey wheel, then I'm not good enough yet to determine that. And most certainly there are more things that will give me more benefits that I should worry about before that.

Whatever they came with from the factory. Honestly never counted them, nor do I plan to.

A better question might be "what is your favorite jockey wheel color?"

I choose basic black, as it goes with everything.

I prefer the size that the RD comes with because that isnt a marginal gain I care to explore.

On a related topic - what adverse effect comes from a worn tension pulley? Obviously, a worn guide pulley does negatively affect shifting precision and speed. But I suspect that with the tension pulley, given it spins freely and there is no play in the bearing, there shouldn't be much difference up until it is worn near round.

Am I wrong in thinking this?

Bikes don't suddenly go faster or do anything significantly different when you replace old tired pulleys with new other than shift better if they were really tired. Most of us never notice the change until we put the bike back in the stand. "Oh yeah, I have new pulleys." Paying money to go to "better" pulleys? Sure, good, but there are many other places to spend that money where it will make a bigger difference. (I doubt anybody ever lost a mountain bike race because they were using the SunTour MTB derailleur with its 3 pulleys to get more chain wrap and better ground clearance despite it having 50% more friction.)

That said, I don't do index so I could be wrong about the new (and now ubiquitous) systems.

prefer the ones that are marked clearly for orientation, don't make noise, & don't harbor gunk. Not a fan of riveted in place ones either.

Kogel sells larger ones that fit the OEM cage on the newer Shimano "R" series of RD's. I think you can go up to 12/14 on the factory cage. Like $150 on sale.

I went that route as I'm a TT nut and a half watt is a half watt more than I can train more for. Bigger reason was to go "matchy matchy" on gold chain and gold pulleys. The half a watt is whatever.

Horsing around with aftermarket jockey wheels might not be a good idea. I don't know if they void warranties or not.

Good question. We know OP avoids Shimano and other recognizable brands, be interesting to see what the things he uses come with.

Most times, changing out derailleur pulleys is simply chasing after the wind. Replacing a worn or cracked one is fine, though.

It depends on what size of jockey tire I want use on the jockey wheel.
