I saw one of these for sale and am considering it because it’s in a diameter I need, but I wonder if anyone here has an opinion or experience with it. Picture credit to Velobase, thanks in advance!

Yes, they are fine. I know they came oem on Specialized in the 80s. Probably on par with Sugino, SR, etc.

I firmly believe they are, the script is similar to suntour and I have always figured they had to be made by one of the many great companies that were making all good components at the time.

If its the dia. you need and not too $$$$$, it can't hurt much to make it so.

I haven't run into problems with Strong-brand posts. They seem comparable to SR "Laprade" posts.

What size are you looking for?

I always wondered how the top and cylinder were joined...with those and a few suginos...

I’m looking for a good 26.6mm post. I have one of those cool Hupel Rider posts with the Cyrillic writing, but it is a touch too short.

Ah, there it is. I am in no hurry, so I’ll keep my eye out for a one piece post like a Laprade. Thanks, everyone!

I hacksawed an SR Laprade once and it was one piece of cast aluminum.

Laprades were definitely 1 piece cast...I was thinking more of the Strong and Kalloy that seems to be pressed in at the joint. (Velobase photo)

They work fine as long as you don't let them get frozen in the seatpost.

I believe I’ve seen two of these with cracks at the clamp/quill junction.

Thanks for pointing this one out! As luck would have it, I came across it independently. I picked this up and one of my favorite front derailleurs from the same seller.
