Wow, that Bilenky is cool! Vintage tandems have egregiously short top tubes (especially the stoker position). I'm not certain why this is, but that Bilenky obviously doesn't suffer from that.

I see, Bill. I didn't notice the brake arm tab before. The resto looks really good, man.

Hey Bill, can you tell me what the stoker bars are? Either that or provide a picture of the bars so I can see what the look like? From what I can see, I like the profile.

Stoker bars are the original stock ones. Typical french bike, so odd sized stem clamp. My choices in french sizing was either a set of drops, or the original stock bars. Tried the drops, with the short stem, my legs hit the drops, so that was out. I'll try to remember to take a pic. I did flip the stoker stem, it usually angles down.

Colonel: thanks for the compliment. I really put a lot of time into this one, and raided my bins for french parts. New chains, swapped out wheels, respaced rear to 135mm, replaced brake calipers, new captain's bar and stem, replaced brake levers, new 7 speed cassette, swapped out both derailleurs, bar tape, new seat posts, etc....

I wanted to try the tandem experience a few years ago, hoping that my wife would enjoy the opportunity. She seemed less than interested in staring at my rear end when out and about for a good time. She would not even get on the bike and I sold it a few days after purchasing it. That bike, complete with original bill of sale and still in near mint condition, was a 1993 Motobecane Interclub...

Its amazing how similar that 1993 Motobecane tandem is to my 1979 model. Same fork, same cranks, same rear brake, same color and decal work. Main difference is the cantilever front brake.

So far so go good on the wheels, they are tandem specific and I have a flyweight stoker... so they should be fine. Our team weight is around 300lbs. I have never actually counted the spokes They are stiff and solid feeling for such lightweight (1700ish grams) tandem wheels. If they don't hold up I will build a set with deep v's or diads and 36spokes.

That's quite an unusual stoker setup - for a child?

CDM has a nearly identical setup on his bob Jackson triple.

As most here know, I trash picked this with my dad 27 years ago. In a lot of ways it was my entry into the C/v world and it now prowls Philadelphia.

In this year's Christmas glory...

My wife wanted a lighter tandem requiring less maintenance...Tom found this for us at the t-town swap. It's remarkably similar to toytech's and both have the fresh frames paint.

That's the convertible part, the stoker top tube can be moved to DG position (double gents) or as we have it currently have it set in the LB (lady back) position. I think originally it had a trivalex gear system, google that if you want to find strange and obscure!

Nice looking Gitane. My wife and daughter would be happier with a step through stoker tandem.

Yes, That is a kid stoker kit that I installed(the bike previously had one at some point, due to 2 chainrings already on the crank). It works well for my son.

Yeah - I like the double mixte frame design - doesn't seem flexy at all, even though French tandems are supposedly known for that.

Interesting. I had no idea such things existed. Noted for possible future use.

My wife and I rode this one for many years, just sold it last summer.

We bought this one about a year ago but it's too small for the captain so it's looking for a new home. You can see more photos of it in the "Tandem Marketplace" thread at the top of the Tandem Forum.

Hey, Just thought i'd put this one out there....
I bought this old girl off ebay for a £200,
she's a 1979 Motobecane, but had had a few upgrades over the years... before being left to rot in a warehouse somewhere...
it only took a month but i got her back to something like her former glory..
Before

After....

Wow, those brown tires look great with the bar tape and bike's color scheme. On most bikes, they just look like you rode through poop, here they look like they were made for the bike. What a sharp bike.

Long gone, but this Sport Twinn was "lightened" a bit; Alloy Rims & drum brake removed. Used it to to take my youngest son on Charity rides when he was too young to ride single. Now he's off riding far ahead of me.

Having just a little fun with some ape hangers I found at the local flea market. Actually rides pretty good with these on it. Waiting on my leather grips with streamers.
