I'm looking for a hitch mounted rack my wife and I can share. She's got an Equinox with a liftgate, and I've got a Jeep with a tailgate. The rack needs to swing out of the way so we can still get to the back of our vehicles wven with bikes on the rack, and it needs to be light enough that my wife can easily put the rack on or off by herself (garage won't close with rack on vehicle).

Should hold 2 bikes without banging them together, more capacity optional.

I used to own a Jeep so I know your pain. No I never had a swing away rack because i liked the racks that held the bikes by the wheels at the time. Knowing what I know now the swing away option makes a lot of sense. Too many links to list, just run "swing away bike racks" through google. Tons of links and reviews.

try Allen racks. Well made at a reasonable price.

Check out Raxter. One of the specific advantages is that the racks fold more closely to the rear bumper, so you can still leave it on the car.

I'm not a big fan of racks that grab the top tube. Wheel mounted racks are much easier to load/unload and won't damage the frame.

I've got a tarsus and can open my trunk with the rack folded up, but not when loaded with bikes.

Hi. Probably irrelevant now, but I have a Draftmaster that holds 4 bikes-one being a tandem. Works fabulously. It drops down to allow access to my hatch on a Toyota Sequoia. Don't think that my 5', 110 lb wife could lift/swing it back up fully loaded, but with only 2 bikes she could for sure. If you want it to fold up against the back of the Jeep, and leave it on, the other I considered was the Swagman. It drops down to gain access to the rear hatch, as I recall, and its light.
