New stem for Kilo, help please?

Hello all,

This is a really dumb question, I know that. EVEN SO... please bear with me.

I received Cinelli MASH bullhorns for Xmas and when I tried switching out the Cinellis with the stock drops, as I predicted would happen, the Cinellis didn't fit the stem. I obviously need a new one (and I was already planning on getting a new stem anyway) so what should I get? Or... is there anything I can do to salvage the old stem? Also, can you tell me the measurements for everything? Thanks.

You need a stem with a 31.8mm clamp. Because Kilo forks are 1" threadless (and it's tough to find 1" threadless stems having a 31.8 clamp), you will need to buy a 1 1/8" stem and use a shim.

Yup, and the Kilo's stock stem also came with a shim, so you can reuse that.

I was unaware they came with a shim now. Many moons ago when I owned a Kilo, it came with a stock 1" stem.

Maybe my mind's become fuzzy, as I replaced my stem at the LBS as soon as I got the bike back in October 2011. I vaguely recall seeing a shim left on the steerer when I lifted the stock stem off, but eh, OP will find out soon enough.

1. Remove stem, see if there is still a thing there.
2. ???
3. Profit.

I was looking for a way to re-use the stem & bars off my other bike. Thanks, ordered.

Funny, there seem to be few problems that someone hasn't made a solution for. That doesn't mean the solution is available and worth buying, but ...
