There's always someone or something breakin' my stride and then there's enough variability in incline that it takes a lot more fussing to stay on target. This is my excuse for assuming that any FTP figures derived outside are underestimating my potential.
Yes, that's what it is.

I find outdoor efforts much easier than indoor. I think it's mainly the richer sensory feedback. Descents are obviously an issue, but I can avoid the big ones and bring up the mean power by pushing it on the uphills. I'm sure purists would be aghast, but it has real-world validity.
