On last Saturday's hard club ride, I somehow injured/strained my popliteus muscle. It's a small muscle behind the knee. It's less sore now, but it's something I have never injured before and I honestly don't know how I even injured it since it's an external rotator of the foot/tibia and cycling should not really use it.
The main symptom is mild pain/discomfort behind my knee when leg fully extended/knee locked.
Try dropping your seat 3mm. I have had that and think the cause is related to extension. I think it’s a tendinopathy.
