FWIW, I couldn't remember the last time that I'd seen anything over 170bpm on the Garmin, so I looked through some power/duration records for the year and tracked down the activities - looks like the highest I've hit this year was 176bpm.

I can't remember the last time I had a continuous HRM on. Must've been 1991-ish.

Within individuals it is. A very high rate on an interval is a sign that I am generating lots of demand with the legs. That, in turn, reflects tuned up muscle energy metabolism and, just as importantly, lots of merciless drive from above the neck.

you might be right, but I might throw up before I ever make it. I did hit 175 today and maybe I could have pushed it harder, wasn’t the goal or what data Inwas trying to collect plus the group would have been pissed if I increased the speed anymore.
I was told to stop pulling at one point…..
Theres a stretch of road where in the past it seemed like the group always accelerated at this point. I never got to lead at this section until today. I guess I did too much.

I don't feel comfortable much over 150bpm. When I had a treadmill test it would go over that for a few seconds when he changed the incline but would settle back to 150. He said it was the most boring test he'd seen.
I climbed with a guy who ran 185 beats all the way up a 3 mile climb while I did 150-ish. Of course he was faster than I was. Friggen hummingbird.
Some weight-loss show I watched they put the participants on a track and had them walk around with monitors on. One woman, who was about 5' tall and 375 pounds, hit about 225bpm before they rushed out there and stopped her. She didn't seem to be in distress and was still smiling.

In my prime (early 30s), 207bpm was commonly seen at the end of a race sprint, and I could do extended climbs at 192. Today, I max at 189.

Trials motorcycles were once rigid frames. When rear suspension was introduced some Englishman was quoted as saying "How can you tell what the rear wheel is doing if it's attached to a bloody spring?"

Got in a second ride with the previously mentioned, and recently mounted, Pirelli P-Zeros. They're not the most supple tires in the world, even when running them slightly lower than I used to run the Michelin or Schwalbe, but holy schnikes are they grippy as stink. It's the most glued-to-the-road feeling I've ever experienced. I almost feel like I could slam on the rear brake and go over the bars before locking up the tire.
