Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Up way before I had to because of flight stress. Awesome.

And the squat talk last page means I now have a Bowflex banner ad.

Last night, it blew and poured and blew some more. Did I mention it poured? I kept checking for tornado warnings but we never got any.

House was a shaking and windows were rattling, oh my!

What kind of ads did you get from the toilet talk?

Before I coughed up for a membership I was usually seeing ads for recovery programs, the advertisers obviously saw the word “Addiction” frequently in my browser.

Safe travels.

Exciting, gets your heart a-pumping.

So long as it doesn't bring any trees down.

Puff pastry (cheap brand) with egg wash. The final product was runnier than I expected but good. I went with wet sea scallops to save a few bucks. That might have been the problem. Shrimp, haddock and cod rounded out the seafood.

Whew - Festive 500 in the bag. I was glad to not go out with (too much of) a whimper. A little over 2 hours with an NP of 212w - on the last day of 6 days and 311 miles? I'll take it.

I'm going to enjoy the next couple days off, though.

What a waste. Almost 50 degrees out there and a steady downpour. 100% chance of rain all friggin day. Back to the trainers.

I’ve ruined some good dishes that way. At least when you sauté them, you can reduce.

I still don't understand why, but this town has more good little Mexican restaurants than they ought to. Just had a great post-ride and post-toilet install (we didn't end up doing them yesterday - I was wiped) meal at a favorite hole in the wall. The puerco en chile verde was soooo good. I am contentedly stuffed.

We have several hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurants in our area. The food is good and authentic and inexpensive. Better than Chipotle in many ways.

Chipotle to Mexican food is like Taco Bell to Chipotle.

They’re all run by Salvadorans.

I was going to take a friendly dig at the post-ride sofritas burrito (which is something I regularly enjoy, too), but decided against it.

Then you may as well destroy them. The past couple of months should have consisted of weights in the AM, and low cadence/higher power stuff, interspersed with some VO2 just to keep the heart happy. Yesterday was squats, deads, and then a wonderful 2x40' sweet spot at no more than 50 rpm. I was making deals with myself on the second interval.

Wow, dense! I do deadlifts all year, but I hate the idea of riding hard for a day or two after squats. I will be trying some low-cadence work on the trainer.
