Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Not really a first world problem, more like a developing nation problem in the middle of the first world.

We have old school DSL internet through AT&T. As much as I hate dealing with that company, we rarely if ever have a problem with our service and it never freezes. That includes the times when the kids and their friends are at the house and we have multiple TVs, pads, phones, and computers going at the same time.

Yeah, I understand how the math works, I just think that mileage is laughably inflated (relative to workload) because of situational absurdities and generous assumptions. I mean, yeah, if I had a closed course, 200 riding buddies and we could throw concerns of crashing out of the window, I don't doubt that I could managed 24mph on 200w NP. But, you know... reality.
Spot on. 24 on the road is not a steady 24 on the road. I should say rarely. As said, you're in a group, there are surges, sometimes huge, and as you're alluding to, people breathing out of their tonsils, trying to ride in a group.

We always wanted DSL BITD but never were able to get it. We went from old-fashioned dialup to fiber-optic FIOS. The FIOS really does work ok except for those super-short freezes. I have wasted several hours with their "customer service" and even "tech" people who insist they tested the connection and it's perfect. They say the problem is something inside our home. It's not. We have even tried switching WiFi routers and plugging the ethernet connection directly into our computer, and the problem persists. But since the problem only lasts a fraction of a second, it's going to be impossible to show/prove it to them. When this was first an issue a few years ago I was very frustrated, but I have accepted it.

It helps that I don't take Zwift too seriously. It's just a video game.

Loaf #2 is out of the oven. Still not sourdough - sorry, datlas.

That said, I've been looking in to sourdough. I was tempted to start work on my starter, but my baking enthusiast niece reached out to me and may be providing me with some of her starter this weekend. We shall see.

As I was waiting for other C&V riders on Saturday, somebody's 50+ rider group ride rolled by. Not sure how fast, but FAST! Pretty sure it was the famous/infamous Spectrum Ride. That stretch of road has about 6 miles of no stops, and fairly limited car traffic (there's a parallel freeway 1/4 mile away. I think that's about as close to Zwift's imaginary world as you'll get.

This ride goes on most of the same roads I ride, for the same reason - wide, rolling roads with few stop signs. I saw them again on their way back. They took up the entire side of the road, which probably rankles drivers, but bikes in CA are supposed to keep to the right if they're not going the speed of traffic. 50+ cyclists ARE the traffic!

I wonder if you have an incredibly short lease time on your IP which could create a “drop” every 20 mins

OH, YEAH! In addition to seeing the Spectrum Ride, I think I MIGHT have seen 'Sup Larry! There was a guy in gym shorts and no shirt, long blond hair, and a little heavy, who rode by at another point. I wasn't in a position to drope any hamers, or dial it up to 400W, or give him The Look, so I guess I'll never know.

BTW, I think I'll limit my Saturday AM riding to this one monthly C&V ride. The Spectrum Ride scares me. Not riding in it, because I'm not dumb enough to do that. Just being passed by it. A bunch of guys going really fast, all looking to move up in the pack all the time - I could imagine being ridden over. I can hold a line, but, WOW, are there a LOT of riders going REAL DAMN FAST!

Yeah, that sounded a bit odd. I mean, they can't just take them out, right? Not without putting something else in there.

From my angle I couldn't tell whether he was feeling confident or not.

If you know the admin credentials for your router and go to the DHCP settings it may tell you how long until your IP lease expires

Hadn’t noticed it being any harder than IRL.

Is it possible there could be a conflict with some other device, which might be solved by assigning a hard address to whatever he’s using to run Zwift?

Eh, good sourdough can be really good. It's at least worth experimenting.

Also, wouldn't sourdough be the "regular" bread, at least in terms of leavened breads?
