In the previous post I noted that they are old pictures. Haven't seen my camera in a few years.
The bottom of that hill is the valley I live in, the closest fire is in the hills about 30 miles north, behind the camera, across the next valley. I saw the smoke from the top of the climb. The "Lake" fire is still raging.

Here is another old pic looking north. Behind Will, in the far hills, is where the fire is.

The Mighty Volunteers have the finest marching band in all the land, and the Owls don't.

While I was climbing this morning a man and a woman on shiny e-bikes flew past me. Later, they came back down and as they passed me the woman yelled out "You're the badass". I said I knew this, I don't know if she heard me.
Almost at the top and old dude on an e-bike passed me and said something about "awesome". At the top he was resting!!?? so I went around him and on to the next section.
I was starting the dirt descent and a guy on a nice Giant gravel bike passed me with a friendly hello. Not letting a gravel bike drop me on a rough-ish descent I went after him and when the ruts and sand came I passed him back. I waited for him at my turnoff and we talked bikes for a while.

However, that old-Cervelo cable routing is a sticker. One of the reasons I don't think my answer will ever be "eh I'll just buy an actual Aspero" is that horrid routing; if I succumb to carbon for this (which I've considered, and just get a steel roadie for the next one, for morning exercise), it'll be something DI2 with hoses and wires inside all the way. I actually looked at the Domane last night, but the standard geometry is way too tall and not only do they not list the H1.5/pro version, it only comes in ProjectOne, where DI2 costs $8500.
I did realize I ought to talk to those Chumba boys from a while ago and see if they'll make me one with normal TAs instead of the kinda-ugly sliding ones. It would be nice to keep it local, not just for economics but ease of communication. And picking it up form the shop would be a lot cheaper than shipping my pride and joy across the Atlantic.
But yeah, damn that is a good deal.

I need mine; slept like hell. Had a nightmare that it turned out that the reason my poor kitty isn't here is that when we moved, I boarded him at an Applebee's or similar and forgot about him until we ate there. They brought him out to eat with us, and then I went back the next day to see about getting him and they'd lost him and tried to give me a stuffed animal instead. Holy hell it's going to be hard to exorcise that one.
And the weird thing is, abandoning him is the absolute last thing I would have done.
Of course, Garmin says I didn't recover much.

It kind of looked like that here today, only it was raining.
Yikes, bike racing is dangerous. Beware of corners, people.

The Garmin metrics are one thing that's going to be interesting for me to watch. Respiration rate, VO2 max, etc. Almost makes me want a watch, too.

I’m in the throes of ride fatigue. No interest though I hope to get out for a short ride. Humidity the last few days hasn’t helped along with some outside minor stressful stuff. Also, some busy weeks coming up with doctor visits and tests. My podium placing is highly in doubt for awhile.

Looking at the morning Strava feed, I see that an acquaintance in the neighborhood (well, I've actually never met her, but I've ridden with her husband a handful of times) did the DaMN yesterday (Day across MN). As the name implies, it's a ride from border to border (SD and WI) in one day. Not sure how much the route varies, but her ride was 242 miles (she had a moving time a little under 20 hours). In the arena of one-day biking accomplishments idiocy, I think that this is about as dumb as I'd get.

I may not be riding today. Might go visit my sister in NJ. A ride is possible but not certain.
