Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Not a concern, I like keeping it off the floor. Just wondered what other people used. I’ll prolly just stick with a newer of what I have.

That's what I do, and then it did topple. We have space; I'm just clumsy.

I got a note from Strava informing me that I lost my Local Legend status on a segment. I still ride the segment two or three times a week (it's on the way to the bike shop). But I'm on the ebike, so it doesn't count.

Joints weren't up for that kind of distance. Even in the first two miles I wondered if it was a good idea, but I HTFU and kept going. Not eating until after the ride probably didn't help.

I left at a godforsaken morning hour and there was thick fog out. I was covered with moisture. wut

Miles 20-35 are a great four-lane road for riding. I was passed by several vehicles bearing fat bikes there. "Why not ride on this beautiful road?" I muttered.

Somewhere along the way I passed the Lemond Crabon Laboratory. I did not see a sign for it.

Used more small ring today than I have on any ride this year. Sad.

I have 3 hangers that hold the rim and mount to a wall. I screwed a 2x4 to the stud, then the hangers to the 2x4. The hangers are all set about 6 1/2 feet off the ground, staggered so I hang the bike alternating: bars up/bars down/bars up. Holds all 3 bikes in a space in our finished garage behind the door with room to put stuff under, and a nice bench for sitting down to put on/take off shoes, helmet etc.

It's perfect!

Then I got the Canyon.

I had to work out a way to wedge that into a space that's exactly long enough that the back wheel bumps up against an old set of rollers I haven't had the heart to throw out yet, and the right brake lever is an inch from the laser printer sitting on a filing cabinet that the wheel leans against. Snug! I keep the Canyon and the Ritchey in the most accessible spots. If I want to take the Bianchi or Battaglin out, it's a bit of a chore.

That 'rain' stuff must be going around. I woke up around 3:30 to the sound of thunder, and heavy rain. This is NOT NORMAL for the Bay Area! Especially not for August!

So I turned off the alarm I'd set on my phone for 7 so I could go hit the road early.

Then the power went out, and only just came back. The REASON it came back was because I was searching for the solar phone chargers we'd bought. I was probably JUST about to find them, so to make all my efforts a waste of time, the power came back on.

We had thunder and lightning around 0100 hours. I got outta bed and walked out to the driveway this check it out for a bit, but there was not even a hint of rain.

I counted the seconds between lightning and thunder, then of course started singing this...

Nope. It was a cool morning (autumn), foggy, and I had only ridden a few miles. I had to ditch my sunglasses because they were all fogged up.

A few years ago my friend took me on an epic ride from Oakland out to and up Mt Diablo.

On the way, he pointed to some dry brown hills and asked me what color they were. I said “brown.”

He corrected me and told me they were the GOLDEN HILLS.

I still think they were brown. No rain makes everything look that way.

You're right by the ocean. How is that possible? Meanwhile, hundreds of miles away from water, this was yesterday.

Okie dokie - I have the Light Network set up on the Garmin. At this point, starting a ride will turn on the Varia (radar on and Daylight Flash [the mode I use most often]) and the Cycliq (video recording, light off). The Varia will alsogo back in to standby when I finish with a ride, but the Cycliq seems to need to be turned off manually.

Changing light modes seems clunky, though... Need to RTFM to see iffin I can create "Scenes" as with my home lighting. It'd be nice to have the above as my default and then a Night setting that would switch over to High (front), Night Flash (rear) or something like that.
