Did a big Zwift group ride and set new indoor/outdoor 30 and 40 min power numbers. My power curve for the whole 40 km is almost flat. Guess I should have soloed more gaps.

Neither real miles nor fake non-miles so far today, so my bike activity has been some Spring maintenance and sprucing up. Finally trimmed the periscope; I don't think that it was horribly offensive in the first place, but it still looks much better -



I might move a 5mm spacer from under the stem to above, but it's going to be months 'til I ride it outside, so I'll just do that later.

Also cleaned and re-greased the headset bearings; it had developed a creak towards the end of the season and I can see why - there was plenty of crud in there.

I was also going to order my tires for the year, but the deals on my 1a and 1b choices disappeared in the last two days. Concerning.

We have a lot of bad weather in the forecast so I took advantage of today's 36º weather and rode 36 miles. No metric units but a certain amount of synchronicity in my numbers. Even the wind was between 3 and 4 mph so I'll call it 3.6.

I sweat like a squadron of pigs (yes, I know pigs don’t sweat; it’s a figure of speech) and have never had crust under my tape, even under old Tressostar-type stuff.

I sweat plenty but I almost always wear sun sleeves, so I don't think that much sweat makes it to my fancy crabon bars.

My friend told me I sweat so much they have to mop the street after I ride by so the other cyclists don't slip in it.
I've corroded the cable stops off an aluminum frame, corroded the cable end sleeve things down to nothing. My Tesch has full length cable housings and where the brake cable enters the top tube it chaffed the paint. My sweat got under the paint and migrated 2 inches back and half way around the tube.
I've done a hot humid ride and found my shoes still wet the next day.

It was about 40f when we started today but it warmed into the low 50s and it was clear and wind-free. Supposed to be 30 miles but 9 of the 11 wanted to extend it to 55 so I bailed with another guy who was having shifting issues. Almost 3000 feet of climbing in 30 miles on day with tired legs.

Came home hoping to see Brady get pressured by the Packers but has only happened a few times. It's not looking good.

I describe it as creating a marine environment. I sweated paint off the top tubes of two custom painted bikes. One was repainted by CycleArt in about 1985 and it’s still near perfect even though the bike has lived on the trainer for two years, so I guess good paint makes a difference.

In the early hardshell helmet days, I had some POS helmet, maybe a Pro Tec, that allowed sweat to collect and drip off two points on the straps. People simply wouldn’t ride on my wheel because of the drip-drip in their faces. I sweat a little less these days and I think my heat tolerance has decreased too.

I quite enjoyed it. I don't have any friends or family that are obnoxious cheese heads, but for my many Minnesotans that do, I'm glad.

Now for the Bills to fall.

When I used sunglasses with the foam strip across the top of the frame, the foam gets soaked on the climb and on the subsequent descent the air pressure squeezes it against my face causing a rush of sweat down the inside of the lens and into my eyes.

I try to weigh myself before and after hot rides and I have found I typically lose 5 or 6 pounds on a hot, hilly ride of 65-75 miles. I cannot drink enough on a hot climbing ride (100 feet per mile) and have come home 11 pounds light. Felt pretty bad that day.

Have drank 200-220 ounces of liquid on 85-90 mile climbing rides. One thing I started doing this pandemic summer was taking a Camelbak along with 2 bottles and after I drained the Camelbak and started on the first bottle I would start planning a water stop. Much better than trying to conserve water and I felt better knowing I had 70 or 80 ounces already consumed. I even drank 200+ ounces at work on a hot day.
