Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'm not the world's best judge of bikes, but frankthetank wins for the background/setting. Looks like a nice place to go for a ride!

If that picture was taken where I think it was, he wasn't on that stretch for more than 1/2 mile. But SW WI is a beautiful area to bike

1974 Mondia Super, Suntour Superbe group with Campagnolo headset and bottom bracket. Old school 531 steel, only 12 speeds, but it is light, fast, and nimble. Fully restored with fresh paint and decals, it is a bit of a show stopper too..... I get a lot of comments/questions when I tool around town on it. Just ran it for 25 miles today, and it's a flyer....the Suntour friction shifters feel slick as glass.

Bridgestone had a line of bikes named after stars. Your is named after Altair, the 11th brightest star in the sky. I had a Bridgestone Spica, which is the 14th brightest star in the sky.

That's pretty much all I know, except they were Cro-Mo frames, and very well built. Bridgestone bike have a certain cult following, especially the better ones like your and mine. Even cosmetically challenged, I sold my Spica for a good price not too long ago.

I suggest you lock it up when you're not on it......

2004 Cannondale r800. Started out as a triple, that came off quickly. Added a full Ultegra drivetrain with a FSA Carbon Pro Team Issue crank, Xero Xr-1 wheels with Michelin Carbons, a Selle San Marco seat, and a set of magnesium welgo look pedals. Best thing about the bike: 17 lbs.

That bike brings back some memories... Its almost EXACTLY like my dad's old Schwinn he rode from before I was born until a couple years ago! (He wanted something more upright) Anyway, really awesome!

I'd kill to have a bike like that, recently, we had a 3 days tour in our country and there were tons super expensive rigs around, TREK, Kuotas, Derosa, Look , you name it they have it. But the Star Attraction of the event is a early 1980s Derosa with Campagnolo group sets, remember those days where there were beautiful metal sculpture on your rear derailer? The Triangular Pull Brake? And that bike was so well preserved, it's a masterpiece to look at!

The new Mercier Serpens from BikesDirect.com came today. Assembly took a few hours since I had 2 to put together and all 4 wheels needed to be trued (girlfriend got one too). Cant comment on the ride as it was dark by the time I got done so I only took it for a quick spin around the neighborhood. So far everything looks good, my stem and rear hub had a few scrapes but I'd rather ride it than wait for prettier parts to come in. Before anyone says anything, I decided to leave the stem flipped up on this one. I have an 05' Fuji Pro with the stem flipped down. If I find it uncomfortable I'll fix it but otherwise, I wanted this bike for comfort rather than speed.

Reynolds 853 steel
Full Ultegra
Ritchey stem, handle bars, wheels and seat post
$1300 delivered

I ordered a pair of Crank Bros Candy C's and an Astrale 8 for each from Performance. Cant wait to put some miles on this thing

Current bike: Giant TCR 2 - rides like a dream. See sig for pics.

Next bike on the list is a Teledyne Titan - the first titanium road bike ever made (1975). Tough to find though - collectors item.

I don't think I've posted in this thread....so here goes.

I have 2 road bikes (one is for sale).

Here's my 2002 Fuji Roubaix. It is pretty light, stiff & fast.

And here is the 2006 LeMond Croix de Fer that replaced it (heavier & not as stiff), and I love it.

no harm, it just seemed strange that would be the first thing you would ask!

not usually what first comes to mind when looking at someone's ride. usually it's "dude, that's sweet i'm jealous of your [insert bike component]" or something along those lines
