And, when I invited those guys to come do a road ride with me, they laughed and said, to a man, “Road riding is too dangerous.” Go figure.

Awww.
When I had my C-spine surgery one of the surgeons (Navy) I talked to was going to fuse my entire neck and send me home in a collar. My wife and I discussed this with my daughter whose image was of me coming home with a cone like a dog (mouse) from the vet. She admitted this to us some time later. In the event, I found a much better surgeon (Army), who fused one level, added two brand new stainless steel discs, and sent me home with nothing but a few bottles of dope.

Moi aussi. After 50 years a roadie, a hard core MTB riding buddy from work hypnotized and persuaded me to buy a mountain bike. Dropped $1500 on a slightly used Banshee Prime full suss 29er. After about 5 rides with my friend’s crew of maniacs, I realized that, at 60, at least for me, wrapping around trees, falling on boulders and sliding down steep slopes into creeks was a recipe for serious injury. Haven’t sold the Banshee yet but I will. I must say that, although I hated getting dropped on downhill sections by more experienced riders, I enjoyed the comments like, “F- - -ing roadie”, when I caught and past those doobie smoking yahoos on the climbs.
And, when I invited those guys to come do a road ride with me, they laughed and said, to a man, “Road riding is too dangerous.” Go figure.

A friend was a road racer, one of the top women in the country years ago and her husband was a runner. He ran 135 miles per week so he had a huge aerobic base. He always minimized her riding and felt he was superior as a runner until he couldn't run any longer because of tendon damage.
He started riding one of his wife's bikes and he crashed a lot, ending up with a lot of injuries and a TBI. This was the end of his riding. He was so strong but had no skills whatsoever.

Don't shame the good people at the University of Tennessee. Of course we must include the good people of Sharpsville, Pennsylvania in that as well. Lastly, think of your pal DougRNS.

In other news, I think i have determined the creaking noise is indeed the saddle/seatpost. I was able to get the seat to creak by apply force to it. Now I need to figure out what to do.
3 cheers for me!
