Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I don't know. Maybe Trsnrtr can tell you. I only drove through once on I-24 ages ago.

I cross TN on I-24 a few times a year but I never realized I was crossing Coffee County.

We usually stay in Shelbyville when traveling to FL. We then go through Bell Buckle or War Trace to get back to I-24. I often imagine that I’m hearing banjo music.

I'm 12 miles from the Madison county seat. Well under a half day's walk. It's about a 12 hour walk from the farthest village.

Speaking of county names, I live in Chester County, which does NOT include Chester, PA (a fairly rough small city), some people get confused about that.

There’s definitely a good amount of that throughout these forums, which can be measured roughly by the number and intensity of arguments. Some guys just gotta know it all, they just gotta be right. But there’s much less of that in the Addiction thread which is even more awesome than the DougRNS shovel.

Afternoon maintenance activity: flush the nib of my fountain pen. Writing with a clean nib is like riding with a freshly-lubed chain. So nice.

The only nibs I can get excited about are the chocolate ones.

Never been to Bucksnort but my wife’s step-father was from Dickson, TN which is not too far from there.

BTW, many families from TN and other mid-south states flocked to my area to work at Caterpillar in the mid-1900s. A good friend’s family came here then from Arkansas and another from Missouri. Very common.

I can imagine there was a big migration from those areas.

I remember a very long drive, sometime in the 1980s, from Boston to Ardmore, OK to visit my (now) wife's parents. It involved driving the length of TN on I 40. It was concrete slab, all heaved up with terrible expansion joints, and I remember the BUDDUP, BUDDUP, BUDDUP for hours on end. We left girlfriend's down jacket at a diner in Bucksnort, which condemned us to the same route back.

You should swing east and check out the hollers of Cocke County.

BTW, Bell Buckle and Wartrace are not in Coffee County, they're in Bedford County.

It depends how fast one walks.

It's really weird to me how much some people aren't just happy with rim brakes or disc brakes, or tubes or tubeless, but seem to need EVERYONE ELSE to use the same thing or they can't sleep at night. Who cares, really?
