Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

You probably can with an ANT+ dongle. It's just a simple device that plugs in via USB and receives a stronger ANT+ signal - it's what I plug into my home PC in the garage. You may need a thunderbolt to USB adapter depending on the work laptop, or maybe you can get a thunderbolt ANT+ dongle, not sure about that since I'm a windows user.

Also - get a bigger monitor and some speakers! Way more immersive. Some people use a TV. I use a curved gaming monitor that is about 3' from my face.

Another bouncing off the walls morning. If I had this energy all the time I would run out of things that need doing. For the pre breakfast smoothie, I start with a large handful of seasonal greens. These days it’s broccoli leaves, New Zealand spinach and chaya. So much better than trying to force down a salad. Or cooking them for that matter.

When we get the wall up and have a specific area for the workout stuff, i’ll have a tv for it. I have no idea how to get all that stuff connected.

My internet is ******. It’s cox but it’s known to be **** on my area. I think I was using the data plan yesterday though.

I used a 65” TV with a 5.1 sound system. Still bored me to tears. Now I use a Surface, and put the TV on something more entertaining. But, I can’t spend all day on a trainer.

I think if I had a designated space it might make it more enjoyable. “Might”

For the most part the humidity here is just fine. Well, it can get too dry in the cold winter.

A longish tale. We were recently turned on to an all organic bulk foods store in Merida. They sell high quality wheat, and wheat flour, which is our original reason for going there. Being the former hippie/former back-to-the-lander that I am, I chose to buy wheat berries and grind them at home with the Corona Mill I’ve had for forty years. They also sell garbanzo flour. All this new flour and I am the only one who knows which container has which flour. So this morning we had 75% garbanzo, 25% store bought whole wheat flour waffles, instead of 75% home ground flour.
A couple weeks ago I whipped up a batch of crackers using only garbanzo flour. It produced not quite a Drano like action, but was quite uncomfortable for twelve hours. I am hoping the wheat flour will dampen those effects.

I offer this as a warning, on many fronts. A kind of a fable. With a moral and all

I agree. Don't blame the software for a hardware problem. I was once in the middle of a race, and because it was a D race, I was doing pretty well, when suddenly my power went completely haywire as my wheel was slipping like crazy - a patch on a tube failed. Another time, my power suddenly dropped to 0w - that little reflective thingie came off the flywheel.

Now, you can also hate Zwift, if you like. This is 'Murrica, after all.

No matter what, it's STILL <<< riding IRL. But it has its up side, too. I have not done any workouts this winter, but I find that seeing the arch down the road, and I just have to keep the power up till I reach it is more motivating than a black screen with a graph and text telling me to keep going.

For freeriding, the graphics are nice to have, because it fools me into thinking I'm going somewhere. But the changes is gradient - mostly* - are the biggest help. Sitting and grinding out a constant power, or shifting gears to mimic gradient doesn't really do it for me, whereas responding to the changes does.

*But I hate the New York City world. The gradient changes are weird and feel unnatural.

Thank you. I shall not make garbanzo flour crackers due to your warning.

Oh, yeah - and yes, it should make it more enjoyable. Or at least, more tolerable. I've shown pics of my setup. I'm close enough to a TV that's large enough for me to focus on the road, and the virtual riders ahead, rather than seeing the whole screen at once. I've also found that using First Person mode (#3, for those using a keyboard) works for me, better than any of the Third Person modes. Unless I'm in a race or group ride, or trying to draft somebody. Then I find it helps to be able to see myself on the road.
