Got a variety of parts today. Mostly for the Koga-Miyata Graveller and the tour I am preparing for but also some for the Gazelle A and my Koga-Miyata SilverAce commuter.

The SilverAce's thumb shifter was losing its notchiness and started mis-shifting so I ordered the trigger shifter. I may or may not have found out I reassembled the hub wrong last time I had it apart so the notches for setting up the gears was misaligned. But first impressions are that it shifts into gear without overshifting, which the thumb shifter tended to do at times.
We'll see how it performs under some spirited riding as I head for the train this afternoon.

The 11-speed 11-36 cassette for the Graveller has a lot more holes than I expected. The 'Bianchi Celeste' Jagwire cables look like they might be a good fit for the same color on the bike. And it will be good to redo the cables anyway.
The chain will be getting the Silca secret wax blend treatment, though I am somewhat hesitant as this bike will run into rain from time to time.

When I was rebuilding one of quite a pile of C&V bikes I have on my back porch last week, I realized my supply of spare chains was dwindling. So I wandered onto eBay and found a listing for "bulk 25 pack SRAM PC-830 chains" at a reasonable per-unit price. I ordered, expecting a rectangular-ish box with 25 packaged chains in it. And today, I received a much more elongated box than expected.

Well, they weren't kidding about the "bulk" packaging...


Looks like I'll spend an hour or so of future leisure time bagging these up for greater convenience. And while it may not end up being a "lifetime supply", it should alleviate any shortages for the foreseeable future.

And of course after it arrived I found a bunch more old salvaged chains I'd stashed elsewhere.

Our co-op bought them that way and I re-bagged them as 5,6,7 speed and they sold for $6 per. Cheaper than trying to clean an old one, and easier to use. Smiles, MH

Well, they were a bit more than $6 each, but they were definitely less expensive than current name-brand single chains on the usual sites. And I don't quite qualify for QBP or JBI pricing, so it'll do for now. One of the nonprofits I'm with finally got a JBI account, but only for parts staying 100% within the program. Some of the bagged chains might indeed end up at one of the co-ops, but likely for replacement work and not retail sales.

The chains fall within the purview of 501C3 for your co-op and they should buy them that way. The great thing about the Sram chains is that they are made in the same factory that produced the Sedis chains in the 1980's. Smiles, MH

The co-op's possession of a 501(c)(3) alone has not yet been sufficient to establish an account. It may be the modest annual cash flow (positive, but modest). We might try again sometime.

The other 501(c)(3) I work with has a much larger budget, but it took them several tries to get an account established. And the organization is still selective on approving orders, and only for "in-house" inventory.

And as someone who is still running a classic double-length Sedisport on the recumbent, I appreciate the legacy.

Cant remember the name of the company that makes that tape, but I love the patterns. Finding the right fit for what I have has been a challenge. Might have to design a bike around them (I have three sets of different patterns).

Maybe the blasphemous Raleigh will get one of them.

I bought three a while ago for under 40 usd a piece. I like them. Finishing is nice but totally different than Brooks. They are painted, not stained.

There are still a bunch floating around the European market, i always think about stocking up...

But the frame has a few high points where it attaches to the rear segment, where the bag loops are. This could poke you in inopportune ways. Also, you need to file the bag loops round, they come seriously sharp.

They are a bit more expensive, i guess inflation hits even discontinued stuff, but if the shipping works for you, 49 euro for a full (not laminated) leather saddle is not bad at all. The leather is, in my experience, a bit thicker than a Brooks

It has been ages since I purchased something in retail packaging. Usually i get stuff in workshop, OEM, or used packaging.

Wow. Shim really went all out with the dura ace stuff. And with all the extra bits, housing, cables, stops, everything, scooping up some of the remaining 9 speed Dura Ace is worth it. Esp since it runs friction so nicely

I have them on several of my bikes. I really like them so far. Very comfy.

Today I went over to another city (The Hague) to pick up a second-hand Garmin Edge 1040 Solar! I say second-hand but really the guy sold his bike before even using it so I just got a pretty decent discount on a fancy bike computer.
For the price of a regular (non-solar) Garmin Edge 840 I got the high-end 1040 Solar. And since I was planning on getting the 840 next month anyway... well, a deal is a deal.

I plan on using it for a 3-week tour this summer. The built-in solar panel is a bit gimmicky but under the right (sunny) conditions it can add a couple of hours to the battery life of the unit.
If reviews are to be believed it can be used for several days without charging under less high-precision GPS settings in a bikepacking setting for example.



But also, new handlebars!
