Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Stopped by to say "Hi" to Lucy on my way to hop the train in Atlantic City. Lucy lives in Margate, NJ and served as a speakeasy during prohibition.

Say what you want about mostly flat riding in S. Jersey, but the lack of any real opportunity to coast takes its toll. Continuous pedaling of a heavy bike takes its toll.

Agree agree agree. The final day of my tour I had the option; hilly or mostly flat. I chose mostly flat, because it was more civilized and there was lots of rain all about. As it happened, I spent over an hour in a church picnic shelter, waiting out the rain.

Juvenile common five-lined skink on the campground bath house wall. There were several scurrying around. Saw a couple of adults males as well. When they mature, they lose the blue in the tail, and the underside of the head turns red.

Back to bicycle content. I replaced my broken RD shifter cable and hand to unwrap the bar to get access. I noticed that this is the ORIGINAL bar tape for my Habanero.

How often should one replace bar tape??

I actually got an email from the local Trek Store for $20 off any purchase so I will probably get Bontrager Bar tape, assuming that's a thing.

You most definitely should. The fit, the craftsmanship. It is all worth it.

Gorilla® tape. Sticky side out for safety. Just change it when no longer tacky or if insects accumulate.

IMO the hardly padded thin version Fizik tape is hands down the best. Thin and tight the way I like it. NEVER gets dirty no matter how light the color. NEVER! A bit hard to install considering it has very little stretch.

Go bare and wear gloves. Problem solved and the bike is lighter.

I have four bikes with drop bars. Each of them has a different type of bar tape.

Dumb question of the day:

When installing a cable end cap, what's the best way to crimp it on?

When I try a needle nose-pliers, it's never tight enough.

When I try to use my cable cutters, it's either too weak or it cuts all the way through the end cap.
