Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yes. Yes, it is. I realize I may be doing nothing but rationalizing doing something I merely want to do.

Reminds me of an exchange from "The Big Chill"....
Michael: I don't know anyone who could get through the day without two or three juicy rationalizations. They're more important than sex.

Sam: Ah, come on. Nothing's more important than sex.

Michael: Oh yeah? Ever gone a week without a rationalization?

If I needed to go to the doctor (and I basically only go when there's a problem) it most likely would require testing and/or physical examination.

I'm scheduled for a doctor visit tomorrow unless they cancel again. Hope they give me the all clear and leave me alone.

Sigh.
My happy pill reup was telemedicine. Aetna is trying to go both ways with the mandatory annual physical; saying it's still mandatory but then letting us just opt out (what I'll be doing).

I'm with you - not sure why I'd want to go in in person for any reason other than something that requires physical contact. Eff, give it to me the rest of the time - twenty minutes total was amazing. I can barely drive there in that time normally.

My primary care doc is pretty much all tele-,medicine. My other two specialists are as well.

We are doing virtually all depositions via Zoom, and all court hearings are using Zoom or WebEx platforms. I haven't been in a courtroom in almost a year.

Or if I got Garmin Vector pedals, I'd have one bike that uses different cleats, so I'd need to buy new shoes just for it.

Any way you slice it, I keep ending up spending >$500.

First world problems.
Why won't your trainer take TAs? Trainer TAs are available for most bikes.

Actually the witch doctor consultations could largely be zoomed, as they don't do meaningful physical examination anyway (my joint issues are obvious enough to be seen by camera). However, every quarter I'm supposed to get blood work, and I don't think that can be tele-tested, so . . .

Buy it, wrap it up, put a tag on that says “To Gene” and “From Santa”, stick it under the tree, and then be really surprised when you open it. Exclaim, “Honey how could you know!”

It's designed for a QR, and although there are adapters, I'm not sure I could fit a 142mm TH + adapter in the gap. I have to undo the clamp the whole way to get a standard 130 + QR in there.

Me, too, but my appointment must be a go because I got a text, an email, and an automated phone call today with instructions for the visit.

I am getting my monthly Avastin injection in my left eye orb so they probably don’t want to postpone and reschedule.

This is after watching a video of a Zwift race where it was mentioned that Zpower users sometimes seem to have an advantage because it may overestimate their power, and thus nobody takes them seriously in a race. So I started feeling weird about the fact that I'm using Zpower, even though there's no chance I'd score a KOM or win a race, and I found myself wanting a smart trainer, which I've been trying not to want because they cost between $500 and $1500.

In another vein, what with the New Case, and the Hospitalization graphs going vertical, I've been cogitating on what this means for outdoor cycling before Spring Vaccine Season. I'm wondering whether, even if the Gov't doesn't severely restrict outdoor activities, I should restrict them anyhow.

So now I'm thinking maybe I should get a smart trainer, so that my indoor riding is more satisfying while we wait for the frightening 3rd wave of this thing to pass. But I also realize I may just be making an excuse to buy something I want but don't need.

Then I get into thinking WHICH smart trainer. And I found myself thinking "In for a penny, in for a pound", and looking at the direct drive models, thinking "$999 isn't THAT much more than $500, is it?"

That way, madness lies.
By all means get a smart trainer, but COVID is no reason to restrict outdoor activity!
