As awesome as that shovel might be, it is the bench that caught my eye. A boyhood friend, a man I've now known for about 70 years, revived his early artistic talents that had been dormant during early child rearing years. His daughters got into horses and so the family traveled frequently to dressage events. As as a sideline he began making similar benches from black walnut trees he felled and milled himself. On the backrest, he carved a horse's head in perfect detail. As the family traveled to horse shows, he would take his benches to sell for $1500 each and he was selling everything he could produce to those horsey people. A fine way to offset the cost of owning horses.
I used to fell and mill trees too. It's how I got into woodworking. Eventually I built a solar kiln, and made a little side money that way.
Now I'm reduced to cycling every day.

So this is most of what I am envisioning for the June 14th-27th:
https://ridewithgps.com/routes/31562518?beta=false
Didn't bother plotting Hamilton back to Missoula. Some familiar roads and overnight locations but also some new ones, including eight new campgrounds. One rest day, possibly at Missouri Headwaters State Park, which is where the Jefferson and Madison Rivers meet to form the Missouri River. Lot's of dirt. Mile 195 to 245 is all dirt and will be done mostly in one day, with an overnight at Bannack State Park, which is a restored ghost town. The campground there features special sites for cyclists with lots of amenities cyclists need. There is at least one mistake in the map: I will not be riding I-15 between mile 310 and 321 but rather the frontage road.

Just signed a high-quality postdoc to start this spring. There goes my semi-retirement plan.

My smoothing plane and wireless earbuds were both supposed to be delivered today via UPS, but they've been delayed due to "operating conditions." I want my toys, damnit!

Ok from the previous iteration.
Whyfi, Its a Sram force crank , 48/35 175mm.
Trsnrtr. I let you know about the battery.
Far as the weight is concerned, the disk brakes for a bit. The entire group set is 300 (I had to modify this I was off on the weight) grams heavier than the Red groupo. These deeper carbon wheels add some plus the tires on it aren't continentals. I went with Maxxis Detenators to try something different.
I put new batteries in my scale and it's over 20lbs. My Contadore bike is 17lbs. With seat bag and pump. We'll have to ride it and see.

We are waiting to figure out daughter #2 college plans. My semi-retirement plan hangs in the balance.

Not going to ask. Wouldn't be prudent. Not at this juncture.

I've seen references to that but have no idea what it means.
