As for myself, I am still hanging around 229lbs. Due to weather and work have had a real hard time getting out on the bike. I have been commuting, but that is not near the distance I ride in the longer daylight hours. Guess I am happy to be maintaining this time of year.
Happy Holidays!

The good news - I got down to 200 lbs
The bad news - A little holiday celebration took me up to 209.
My wife & I went to her family's house for holidays, and I ate too much and didn't work out at all. To top it off, we had dinner on the road from the scary clown. It must be the salt in the food or something, but the next day, my ring was tight and I was ballooning in weight.
It comes off just as fast. I am back down to 205 this morning.

Hey guys... Great job on the weight loss work! I'm finding the holiday "cheer" is adding a few pounds to my waist as well.
Not sure if you kow about it but i have a website that allows you to track your weight (as well as lots of other things). A few Bike forum readers are using the site and like it a great deal so give it a try if you want. It's also 100% free
Web site is: https://www.activebody.org
Regardless of if you use the site, good luck with the weight loss and happy holiday/new year!

I started trying to lose weight on or about 5/1/03. I am 6'2" and was 220 at that time with a goal of 170. By the beginning of December I was 175, which I considered close enough, although I've actually lost a couple more pounds since.
My BP runs about 100/50 and my pulse is about 50.
How'd I do it? My wife and I totally changed our eating habits to healthy foods only. No salt, sugar, junk, etc. That and ride the road bike or use the rowing machine when biking isn't possible.
My wife's the real success story, although she isn't much of a cyclist. She's lost far more weight than me, and gotten her BP way down without having to take meds.

This looks like the right place
I just posted this message in the introductions forum but this looks like the right place as well.
"Thanks for the forum. I have planned an 8 day hiking trip this summer with friends to the beautiful Stein Valley of British Columbia. Right now I am 32 years old, 6'4", 260 pounds and have hovered btween 250 and 265 for the past 10 years. I have always trained with cycling, weight lifting and nordictrack, although sometimes sporadically. I have terrible eating habits and this is what I am working on primarily. This year I want to work out more consistentely, and as spring arrives would like to put in 100 miles a week on my bike. My goal is to lose 30 pounds by July when I go on my hiking trip. I will not follow any fad diets to do this because I know when I stop all the weight will come back. Hopefully there is a good forum here to post weekly on progress, I know I need this to keep myself accountable. Look forward to hearing your replies and hopefully your encouragement. And I hope that I can also encourage you."
I should also mention that I am a family man with two, (almost three) children and a great wife. My blood pressure has been high for the past five years and in the interest of long term health and a happy family life have decided that this absolutely needs to be taken care of. Would much prefer to do this with good nutrition and excercise than with drugs. Thanks again.

Good job to everyone that has lost weight and I'm going to join the club. Right now I'm twenty and weigh about 265. I'm 6' 2'' and have a beer belly (in part from being a volunteer firefighter). I believe one of my major problems is what I eat. I'm vegetarian since the age of three and eat mostly carbs. I'm going to try and cut back and eat healthier, less carbs more fruits veg. and protein (tofu and nuts etc..)
My goal is to hit 220 pounds by mid to late april. This is the maximum weight for one of my real passions, Skydiving. I have jumped twice now and have experienced nothing else like it.
I'm moving up to maine in jan. (it's going to be cold) but I'm going to try and cycle between 50-100 miles a week. I believe the school also has gym facilites availbe so I'm hoping to take full advantage of that.
Thanks

Cold is not a problem. Snow and ice can be. That is the only thing that has kept me off the bike this year. I have ridden in some snow and it is a GREAT workout. However sometimes the roads are too nasty to even attempt. (can't keep bike upright)
I'm moving from NJ to southern maine where the weather promises to be a challenge, I'll try making the best of it.

I am still 39 :-) lost 60 pounds the last 1.5 and is aiming for a Tri in 8 Months! Last fall I tried loosing weight training low intensity and long hours..on the bike, rower and in the woods. That didnt give much weight loss, but a lot of toning... Now I will be doing more intensity and power as that is to up metabolism pre workout. We'll see. It's like a science project with me! I also added a nutrition software and suddenly realized that I eat way too much carbs and very little proteins.... habit from the days of low calorie diet. When I started working out I suddenly could up the daily calorie intake with 800 and still loose. That was way cool.

Hey! I went out for a 25 mile ride on the road bike today and when I got back I was 227 lbs! This in the the middle of the day when I am normally a few pounds heavier than first thing in the morning! WOOOHOOOO... Perhaps this is the start of moving off of my plateau that I have been on for the past few months!

Thanks for posting your progress! This thread is not used much any more.
However, I think it is a great way to help each other out.
Good job and keep up the good work.

What the hey, I'll join in.
Back in mid-january I weighed 206 at 5'8" and 46 years old. And it ain't all muscle . My weight has gone between about 210 and 170 a couple times over the last 9 years.
Although I exercise (biking, lifting, walking) at a moderate intensity several times a week, I eat way more than I could reasonably burn off.
So I started by reducing my caloric intake by about 500 calories a day and continuing my program of moderate exercise.
This morning I weighed 200, giving me about 1lb of weight loss per week.
In an ideal world I'd get down to about 150. In the real world, anything below 165 would be great. I'll continue calorie counting and see what happens.

Hi everybody,
Stats after my ride on 1-13-04
Max weight = 264 same
Current weight = 178 after my ride yesterday... woohoooo made my old goal..
New target weight ... hmm dunno playing it by ear..
Stats as of today 2-12-04
Max weight = 264 same
Current weight = 178-180
New target weight ..... still dunno
Well I have kind of fallen of the wagon so to speak <sigh>. Not watching what I eat as well as I should and not riding everyday like I was when I was losing weight <sigh>... LOL lots of sighs... hehe. Lots of factors why (weather, stress, no time) but mostly just excuses. Well the good news is I haven't gained any weight... The bad news is I haven't lost any either LOL. I'm really getting the urge to buckle down and ride more and get my eating habbits back on track.....
Wish me luck...... and i'll wish everybody else the same.... good luck all!!!
talk to you later...... Jay.........
