Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It depends on how long you sit on them.
a couple of mine are good for 12 hours.

I like a narrow Brooks saddle. B17 Narrow, Team Pro, C15. There is an ancient, narrow, leather covered plastic one which came on my 414. It's also quite comfortable. And the diamond tuck World, that came on my 78 Schwinn World is a tough one to beat. I was sure I was gonna like the Spec. Romin, but no dice, even at 143mm.

Unable to post the quick reply--it won't load, with our high speed 2 mbps internet.
So I will take this opportunity to wish the WhyFi family all the best. I lost both parents within the last five years, and I got through it. I lost my grandfather at 12.

Whose year is it this year? There is another Doug, who is very rarely seen here anymore. It might inspire him to return.

That picture is from Cades Cove, BTW.

I'll post this here instead of the confession thread: there's a couple downhills on the Cades Cove loop where signs instruct cyclists to walk their bicycles down the hill. I do not walk my bicycle down the hill.

I've been there and saw bears while doing the loop. I didn't have my bicycle.

Upon receiving the news, the wife and kids flew ahead by plane, just in case it went quickly (the boy was adamant about being here for Grandpa) and then I packed up the necessities (and cat) for an extended stay and drove solo over the course of two days.

FIL is in rough shape, wife is taking leave to assist over sleepless nights, while I'm assisting with the day-to-day, provisioning and cooking, etc.

Fun stuff.

I’ve ridden the Cove including up to from Townsend and back down.

I did not walk my bike, either.

I used a shovel to clear the driveway today. Just a 2 or 3 inches of powder. Not worth firing up the snow blower.

I don't hate it. Longest ride I've done with that saddle was just under 3 hours. Maybe I should put it on the Langster for the hipster points.

these are the tires on the new ride. Are they any good? I doubt they are top notch since they came with the bike. The reason I ask is that I always heard tires made a huge difference on ride quality but never believed it. This new bike is so smooth and I really wonder why. I went to the website but couldn't find them. Thoughts?
