A lot of them are just saddle leather. I almost bid on one before noticing. If I had a great frame I'd buy one.

yeah... I see 'em now, after I loosend -up the search perameters, you know, the default that occurs.
I DO see what you meen, more than I've seen. Seems like more than one seller. Amazing.
I think it's a good op. That stuff happens some times. Could've found a stash that had gone unnoticed.
I'm not skeptical. With luck, those NOS auction ones might last at a low price. More than the usual amt. of decent used ones as well.

I love my Ideale saddles... I have a 92D, a 60, and was just given a Professional.

The 92 and the 60 have seen some pretty extreme miles and have been wonderful from the get go despite not being factory fresh and I suspect that a mystery saddle in my collection may also be an Ideale.

I have a couple of Ideale saddles that are okay, but I prefer Wrights or Brooks, for some reason they suit my anatomy better.

As an Ideale fan, I'd say I've never seen more than 15-20 Ideales on ebay at any one time. This is amazing--- but a quick glance through the list tells me some have way too high of an opening bid, IMO.

Also, several of "NOS" ones don't appear to be new. Too much paint chipping on the support rails in the first place. I won a true NOS Ideale 45 back in January and the rivets were waxed over to prevent corrosion. None of the current ebay NOS examples seem to have this feature. In this picture I've cleaned off three of the rivets. But you can see the ones still covered.

Timely post!

I'm looking for a leather saddle for a road bike. I have a Brooks Professional, this was new on my 1972 Paramount. I/m very happy with this saddle.

Which Ideale model is most like a Brooks Professional?

Mike, it's probably a 90. Frank Berto gives some measurements in his 1990 book "Upgrading your Bicycle."

B17: length 11.1 in, max width 6.7 in, width at half-length 3.2 in
Professional: length 10.7 in, max width 6.4 in, width at half-length 2.6 in
Ideale 92: length 10.8 in, max width 6.8 in, width at half-length 3.1 in
Ideale 90: length 10.3 in, max width 6.1 in, width at half-length 2.5 in

The Ideale 92 is very similar in basic shape to a B17, and the Ideale 90 is similar to a Professional. There might be a sport saddle that is closer to a Pro than the 90 is, such as perhaps the 80, but I have no data on anything other than the 90 and 92.

I have a natural Rebour Ideale 92 in better condition than nearly anything out there today, with chrome frame and rails and loads of screw travel. Looks like I should BIN it around $600 with a starting point of $200.

Yikes! $$$$. Most of those seem like an awful lot of money for a beat-up old seat.....some of those NOS seem like they were stored very improperly. Dinged up and rusty metal bits.....

I have one of these too that was on a Gitane TdF that I bought complete for $60. It was one of those Godsent things as I've been looking for one to put on the Le Champion (instead of an '84 Brooks Pro). They're about equally broken in, so I find them both very comfortable.
