The fixie hype is at any major city... and LA is sure one of them... without your bike you'll feel very left out lol when you see other peeps with their bikes....

Dude, you actually need a "scene" to help you decide whether or not to ride? Do your tires match your ourys?

there are some hills here and there. ride on Colorado Blvd., it could take you from LA to Glendale to Eagle Rock to Pasadena to Arcadia and ends in Monrovia. pretty fun if you just want to ride and relax.

$30? really? How are you packing the bike? I ship bikes on a somewhat regular basis and have found the cheapest to be UPS unless you can get on a freight shipment with a truck that isn't full. Good luck doing that. Depending on the bike, and if packaged correctly it usually runs me anywhere from $60 for a small, light road bike to over $100 for a larger bike. It averages around the $90 mark usually. Let me, and the rest of the bike shipping world your secrets of shipping for $30 with FedEx. I would really appreciate it.

I'm in New York City (staying in Brooklyn), having shipped my bike from Los Angeles. I've had a blast, although it looks like rain later today - my last day. It was expensive to ship my bike, but definitely worth it. I rode from Carroll Gardens to the Cloisters, 39 miles round trip, and through Prospect Park and Williamsburg. (Pics to follow in a few days.)
L.A., which of course is far larger in area than NYC, is one of the world's great cities to ride a fixie in, too.
But I like riding my bike wherever I am.

My MTB w/some supplies ended up around $45-50 last time.
My skinny-wheeled bikes are usually around $30-ish, depending on how far/what else I throw in.
