Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

After stripping the lock ring off a formula fixed/SS hub, I bought (yesterday) another hub and built a wheel (today) using the spokes and rim from the original (new as of 6ish months ago) wheel. A Surly Lock nut is now being used, the stripping ring only engaged 2-3 threads. The Surly seems to engage 4-5 threads, also I did TONS of skids while only lifting my butt off the saddle only inch or two, and I'm 190lbs. Along with over tightening the ring, these all added up to hub failure.

This was my first wheel build, looking forward to more since they seem fairly easy and fun too.

Does this count?

I ordered the actual bike (53cm Kilo TT in Grape soda):

I'm used to modifying cars, so I also bought some new parts:
- Weinmann Deep V DP18 Track Wheelset in solid white (machined front, non machined rear)
- Vittoria Randonneur 700x28 Tires (white)
- Michelin Bicycle Tubes 700c Long Valve Road Deep V
- Shimano Dura-Ace Track Cog Lockring
- Charge Bucket Seat (white w/ red letters/logo)
- KMC Chain Z-410 1/8" (white) (wasn't planning on it, but I needed something that was ~$8-10 to get free shipping)
- Odyssey Twisted Pedal (white w/ red end cap)
- HoldFast Foot Straps (black w/ red trim)

I was originally going to buy an eighthinch scrambler build, but they were sold out, this ended up being the same price.

Haha, thanks! It's my first SS/Fixed build (well I haven't had a bike since I was a kid), I can't wait for it all to get here so I can ride it. My Wheelset/tubes/tires/lockring came in today and the bike/rest of it should be here Monday.

Sugino 75s, MKS Royal Nuevos, MKS Fit-Alpha Double Straps, Rear B43 on PW hub, PW cog & lockring, and a new front wheel

And some risers for whenever it is I want to try those.

On Wednesday I bought a new 09 Giant Bowery '84.
While I was at the shop I bought Origin8 Urban Risers(white), Lizard Skin Peaty Lock On Grips in White w/ Red n Blue Lock Ons.
Got home and ordered MKS GR-9s, Clips & Origin 8 Straps.

Today I found and bought a Yakima King Joe 3 for $40 on CL!

^^^ I got one of those. I find its most comfy when you're leaned forward in a more aggressive position.

A suede Cinelli Unicanitor. Trying really hard to convince myself not to buy a set of Mavic GL330s with tires laced to Campy Record Pista high-flange hubs (including cog and lockring) for $275.

I should be getting a 50t chainring sometime this week so I can ride with a freewheel. It's gonna be weird after riding my bike for 2+ years fixed.

just bought some sram omniums, my current bb is making some really weird noises so it will be nice to move to a more easily serviceable crankset.
