having a little color on their bike doesn't necessarily make someone a poseur.

much in the same way that having a studio picture of yourself doing a tarckstand while wearing skinny jeans, a piano belt, and nike dunks doesn't necessarily make you one either.

notice the use of the word "necessarily".

So what is the line between poseur and not? I usually see as a lack of actually riding said bike...

defeating the once-per-30sec post limit with a doublepost: borderline-poseur

hahah thanks

I see a poser as a person who does something, like riding fixed, just to fit into a crowd

what do you justify a poser as?

I'm not calling anyone a poseur. And that's exactly my point.

Ride the **** out of that capo, OP. It's a nice bike. Enjoy it, and let the real poseurs (kind of a paradox, i know) drop out like flies with time. Don't invest too much of your energy trying to single them out. They come in all shapes and sizes.

no, don't do it.

I commute on my fixie everyday and do some rec. rides, but I don't don't do the "fixie scene" because I don't want to ride only with fixie riders because that's boring in such a big and diverse city. Plus most of the "fixie scene" people I've seen are high schoolers ( or those that act the like ) that have never ridden bikes before and will probably stop when fixies aren't so damn cool. They kind of infiltrated everything within the "bike scene" though. ICK I'm ranting

Just do it. Everything you could want for riding is here
I'll recommend this ride https://www.midnightridazz.com/forums...&topicId=10358

If you like to work hard come out for Wolfpack, Cubcamp, Root Run, or Bicykillers

I may do the Passage of a Few People Through a Rather Brief Moment in Time ride this week.

Hard to say.
Root Run is more like a training ride, there are no stops. It has the very fast nights, base mile night, hill nights. Small crowd
Wolfpack is very fast for a short time then it stops and repeats. It usually goes someplace cool to hang out for a little. Large crowd, lots of drafting. I'd do it more if it didn't start at 10pm
Cub Camp rotates from pretty social nights hitting up pizza, frozen yogurt, something at a relaxed pace to nights where you'll break a sweat. This may be my favorite, but it's not such a challenge for me anymore
Bicykillers, well only done once so not much to say but it's fast. serious roadie night

iiAtlas,

Have you considered renting a bike? It's unlikely that you will be able to rent a FG, but you can still rent a bike and ride around.

Traveling with a bike is a pain in the butt. I've traveled with bikes for leisure and races and it's just a lot of work. The longer your stay, the better. Like if you were going out for the summer or something. But, if you are just going for a week or so, I say don't bother.

Further, I just read on someone's blog (can't recall which one) where the person was literally charged more for the bike than the cost of the ticket. The last time I flew with a bike it cost me $100 each way. Since airlines are hurtin' right now, they have jacked up the add-on prices...bikes being one of them. I've heard of airlines charging up to $150-200 EACH WAY for bikes.

So, unless this is specifically a bike trip where biking is the central objective, I'd leave it at home and spend the extra cash on something fun.

I actually thought that travelling with my bike was kind of fun
Riding around in new scenery was refreshing although you are right because i could have done the same but with a rental so maybe i won't bring it next time
Then again it's always fun to have my bike

IM SO CONFUSED

...also don't forget that if you travel with the bike you will need to also have the tools to properly reassemble the bike (remove: cranks, pedals, bars, chain, seatpost/saddle...). Do you own a bike box? Are you going to pay someone to pack it for you? Not a deal breaker, but just something else to consider.

It takes me most of an hour to *properly* pack a bike for shipping. Then it takes about the same amount of time to reassemble the bike at the destination. Then you have to repeat at the end of the trip.

Yeah the bike box was the biggest problem
I had to buy that and tools to reassemble it

I still think it was worth it though
had a great trip!
