Anyone looking for a John Deere Mixte?

Folks in Savannah also like to pretend that any old crappy bike is a vintage antique. Sometimes old is just old. As in those two bikes.

Specialized Sirrus 62cm steel frame road bike (for riders 6' - 6'4") - $200 (central square)
Date: 2010-05-27, 9:48AM EDT
Reply to: sale-j7exa-1761968147@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?]
They don't make them like this anymore. Specialized Sirrus road bike with drop handlebars is looking for a good home. Quick-release wheels, indexed rear shifter, suicide shifter levers below the stem, Look arc pedals, , 62cm steel frame, all solid and cared-for components (sakae and suntour--I'd never heard of the brands either). Has been kept indoors for the duration of my charge. Steel frame means this thing is an investment--it doesn't even know meaning of the word 'depreciation'. When the nuclear apocalypse comes, all that will be left are cockroaches and this bike.
It's been my fantastic commuter bike for the past year, but unfortunately I'm moving and need to pass it on to somebody else. $200: it's priced at such a deal because I need it out of the house today or tomorrow.

I reckon it's true that sarcasm doesn't work online....My original answer was going to be to suggest saving up his money until he could afford to buy a more substantial RB-3.
OK, so here's a serious answer... I just purchased a Bridgestone MB-1 (just frame, fork and wheelset) for $200 last week. And was happy to get it.
I assumed that even casual readers of this forum would be aware of the Bridgestone legacy, but perhaps not.

Don't know if this is of interest to anyone but the price started at $800 or so and has been falling for about a month. For a sale NOT born of financial desperation he sure seems anxious to sell it from all the price drops.

70's Hendries Road Bike: Excelsior MN Built. Campy/Columbus - $625 (Minneapolis)
Date: 2010-05-28, 9:03AM CDT
Reply to: sale-qx6zt-1763671258@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?]
The price has been reduced one last time from $650 to $625. We are now at the "part it out" price and I will NOT sell any parts locally.
I have received additional information from a co-worker of Todd Hendries at Area Wide Cycle: He said this is probably the most detailed of the early Hendries frames with the "clover leaf" lug cutouts and "fastback" seat stays. He also said the frame was NOT painted by Kvale but by a local auto painter while a local sign painter did the hand lettering. He was also able to name the original owner whose nickname "Jackson" is hand painted on the top tube.
Very good condition, vintage and very rare Hendries road bike with full Campy Super Record component group. The frame was built in the late 70's in Excelsior Minnesota by Todd Hendries who built less then 50 bicycles during his building career. The frame and fork are Columbus tubing and the frame dimensions are as follows: Seat tube 22-1/4", top tube 20-1/4", down tube 24", head tube 5-1/4", seat stay 20-3/4" and chain stay 16-1/2". The seat is Brooks Professional, the seat tube is not marked except for the size. The bars & stem are Cinelli. The original pedals were retained by previous owner and have been replaced with a Jap/Alloy. All other components are Campy Super Record. The wheels are Campy Omega Strada Hardox and the tires are Matrix CD4K 700c. The black gloss paint is excellent and I am told the frame was painted by Chris Kvale who also hand painted the lettering. I am posting this bike for an in-law who reduced the price to $650. I have lots of photos and I will be happy to forward photos of any specific areas of the bike upon request.

Warning if you go inside Rt 128 in the Boston area you won't come back with just one bike. I drove up from Florida two weeks ago to pick up the Raleigh Clubman that was outed here. The only reason I only came back with just the one bike was: small car, puppy and wife.

Hand built Paramount by Schwinn. I visited the factory in Waterford and ordered the bike there. It is 56cm and built from Columbus SLX tubing. The "gruppo" is Shimano 600. The headset was replaced last year with Chuck King. The stem and bars are Cinelli. This bike has never been crashed and is in fine shape for its age. Minor corrosion on the cable guides on the top tube Very comfortable for long hauls. Enjoy the summer on a classic.

I know! Recently we were agreeing that the Boston market (no pun intended) for used bikes is excellent. Lots of good bikes, and many of them have reasonable prices.
I have friends there, so I could combine the trip into a visit. But it's still a bit too far to justify the expense and time. Maybe one day. A good friend in the area has a 1961 Raleigh Sports that has hardly been ridden. Her ex-husband was the only owner, i.e. he bought it new in 1961 and let it sit for all these years. She will give it to me.
