1990 Schwinn Voyageur- seller asking $200
The bike search for my girl friend continues and as the weeks roll by she's getting less and less particular. Luckily today I noticed a price drop on Green 1990 Schwinn Voyageur touring bike.
My searching around in BF's seem to indicate that they were Japanese made (Panasonic?) solid tourers it's got Columbus tubing but even with the picture of the sticker I'm not positive as to what grade (TOTAL n00b here). Assuming the bike fits her properly and is in good shape 200 bucks too much?
quote from the ad - "Vintage 1990s touring bike equipt with Shimano Deore derailer dia comp cantaleaver brakes ,Sake stem and seatpoast and triple ring Crankset for a total of 18 speeds. It has 3sets of water bottle braze ons , front rack braze ons and it has a rear mounted panier rack. This is a 21" frame with a stand over height of 31" The frame is made very strong with columbus tubing and all joints ar lugged for strength.
I feel this bike would be great on a cross country trip and has seen many miles but has alot of miles yet to see."
Thanks a bunch for any help.

I have read that Columbus Tenax is actually SP tubing that Schwinn rebranded. I don't know if that is true, but it doesn't matter to me. From what I gather 53-56cm frames sell quicker and for higher prices than other sizes. I'd say that $200 can't be too far off. It'll make a great bike if a touring bike is what she's after.

These are nice frames.
Very nice ride for the money.
If it fits, finish the transaction.

+1 Great deal. A steal as a matter of fact. These bikes were the only real touring bikes made in mass production with Columbus SL/SP ("Tenax = "consumer grade" SL/SP).

Going with the GF to go check it out today, the only thing holding her back (besides potential fit issues) is if she does indeed want a touring bike. Her last bike was a SS Sekine and earlier she had been looking at a few fixies so this is a different direction entirely. Still we'll see how she feels post test-ride. If nothing else it would be great for the MS ride we're doing next month.

just a follow up, the GF decided not to get it. It was just a tad too large for her that coupled with her lack of enthusiasm for a touring bike. So if anyone near by is interested...
