As the title states, I'm looking for any info on a manufacturer of short reach, shallow drop bars for my wife. There are plenty of options but, they all seem to be for "modern" stems not my old SR quill stem we have. Any suggestions?

I've got a narrow compact drop bar with the 24.5? clamp. It is steel though. Came off an old AMF bike. I tried them on my kid's trail-a bike, that was kinda cool.

There are a lot of old Nitto and SR bars fitting that description floating around on CL and the 'bay. Back in the day, they were standard equipment on all Japanese road bikes - not a great situation for someone as big as me, but could benefit you. Oh, and virtually all of them were 25.4, not 26.0.

I have a few sets of Pivo's that were never used but are very dirty and need a good cleaning and polishing, I can give you measurements if you would like. I ride a 44-46cm bar so I can't use them and having a few of them I have plenty if I need one for a steel bar replacement on a small frame.

If it's 26.0, I think if you look around you can still find Ritchey "classic" bars. They're shallow and short, really nice bars too.

So you are looking for "shallow reach" bars. Most Rando style bars, including the Sakae Road Champion and the Nitto B176 would fit the bill, if you are looking at 25.4 or 26 clamp. If you are willing to go with a 26.4 stem, Cinelli 64 (Giro d' Italia) will be the way to go.

You are putting STIs on the bike, right?

No these bars that I'm hunting for are for my wifes Trek. She is OK w/ the current bars but, it's still a bit of a stretch to ride the hoods. We ordered interrupter levers (think cyclo cross levers) to go on the flats of her bars and a set of short reach levers (her hoods were cracked anyway). That should take care of the braking issue, she said she just wasn't comfortable reaching like that to stop.

I have a nice old 3T bar/stem combo (short reach stem and small bars). Came off an early 70s Atala. Let me know if you want me to measure or send a photo.

Terry used to make shallow, narrow bars that would work with either a 26.0 or 25.4 stem. They were notched in the drops making it easier for small hands to reach the brake levers too.

3ttt made grand prix bars shallow drop, down to 36 cm wide. Cinelli model 64 38 cm wide version, also known as Giro d' Italia bend.

I bought a set of those from Lickbikes about two years ago for my daughter's bike. It was their last unit, and they said they were discontinued.

Since it is a reach for her to ride on the hoods, how about a shorter stem?

I have a 60mm SR stem on there now. Do they come shorter?
