Miami Vice Centurion Ironman Expert Pics and Question re accoutrements

As I described in a previous post, this Centurion is basically a time capsule bike -- more than 18 years in an attic.

I did a partial tear down, cleaning and lubricating, and it didn't really even need that. While torn down, I decided to upgrade the components to 600 Tricolor, except for the brake levers and that big, funky 175mm Biopace crank, which does really mash up the hills. And I switched out the rear wheel/ 6-speed freewheel with a Titan wheel, freehub, and 13-23 7-speed cassette.

This is the one Centurion I have been looking for. Now time to ignore CL, avoid wrenching, and just ride.

Now the question -- go with the original white tape and saddle or go with black saddle and deep yellow tape? The following two pics are of the new 58.5/57.5 Ironman and my previous very small 51/53 Ironman. Which configuration do you like best?

And, below, more pics of the Centurion on a ride early this am.

Great looking bike.

If you're going to try to keep it original, then go with whatever they put on at the factory.... if your'e modding it to personal taste..then do what YOU like.

If it were mine and I was looking for change, I might try yellow tape and yellow seat, or black and yellow tape with black seat with yellow highlights..That is my opinion..price it accordingly.

Very nice bike

LOL! Khatfull, I have lived among the Noble Savage (IT) and know there ways. And you are my kind of an IT guy.

BTW, where are you from? You are much too colorful to be a life long Minnesotan. I grew up in Eastern Nebraska (Southern Minnesota and know of what I speak.

White/white balances against the lightness of the silver crankset better.

If you go with black/yellow, black hoods would balance better as well.

Agreed... all these Miami Vice Centurion threads are making me very envious!

Anyway, I really like the white saddle, bar tape, and brake hoods; white is original to the bike and really makes it scream "Miami Vice." Switching out the white would just tame the 80s look of the bike.

White is original. The PO did the switch you are asking about (black saddle, yellow tape), in mine, and here is what it looked like when I got it:

Not as striking as yours

i went white tape/hoods, black seat, white cages (for both).

btw, if you put simple green on a rag and rub the hoods you can get them to look like new. follow it up with a little water and maybe some liiiiight pledge.

LOL!

Add me to white and white....you currently have white hoods.
Yellow tape needs black hoods IMO. There's some teal in the decal, you can go all out "Crocket and Tubbs" and splash teal on the bars.

BTW, your saddle is quite forward, perhaps you need a shorter stem?

A Magic Eraser works wonders on white hoods as well. Only problem is all the time I loose to cleaning now that my hoods look so nice and I have to keep them that way!

I assume the Pledge is for protection, does it leave the hoods greasy at all?

No, not mine. This house is on Sweetwater at about 104th. It has been empty for a long time and much of the landscaping/vegetation has died from lack of care and water.

Ah, I assumed it was one of the foreclosed/abandoned houses in the 44th street/Camelback mountain district. I ran across one almost exactly like this, all overgrown with vines and everything, while following signs to a garage sale.

With as many abandoned cookie-cutter/McMansions as we've got here in Phoenix I'm not really surprised there is more than one that looks almost exactly alike:

^^^ This photo, by the way, is top-notch - has a very eerie feel which reminds me of lady Havisham's manor in Dickens' "Great Expectations"... (pardon the reference, I was an English major in a past life)
