A similar alternative to SRAM Omniums?

I'm getting a new frame in about a month or two and initially I was going to just transfer over the Omniums I have on my current bike to the one I'm getting. However, the frame has thinner tubing and more of a classic look and I feel like the Omniums are gonna look a little too bulky. I really like the omniums and the whole external sealed bearing aspect of it. So I was wondering what other crankset has a similar setup with a sleeker look. I'm really leaning towards the Dura-Ace 7710 but I'm not sure if I'd be able to attach my sugino zen chainring on it and if it'll fit my frame.

Dura Ace 7710 does use a splined BB connection to the cranks similar to Omniums, but it does NOT have external bearings. The Sugino Zen chainring will fit, since it is also 144 bcd.

My buddy has the IRD Defiant cranks and I love them. You said you wanted a classic look and they fit the bill.

Another option, though it might be difficult to get the right chainline, is to get an external cupped ISIS bottem bracket an the FSA carbon wrapped cranks. Also doesnt look especially classic, but more so than the omnims.

Why not opt for the s300's? A less bulky version of the Omniums..

Hmm all the suggested cranks look just as bulky as the omniums. maybe I'll just stick with them. I just want cranks that are just as stiff and are as low maintenance as possible.

I'm not really concerned about the thickness of the chainring. I was more worried about the crankarms looking too bulky. How come the SRAM s300 doesn't have a silver version with a single chainring? or am i not looking hard enough? black won't match my frame at all.

I wondered the same thing. Looked all over for a silver crank, but to no avail. I ended up just biting the bullet.

If you want stiff cranks, get 75 or Grand Mighty.

you know, for the amount of yammering about how stiff cranks are, has anyone ever done comparative studies, with actual scientific instruments to determine flex and stiffness of these top of the line parts...

if you want to use your zen ring, dont go for s300s, theyre 130 bcd (and only in black anyway). Although they're not particularly sleek, and use a square taper bb, an option that does come in silver that nobodys mentioned, the all-city 612 crankset.

i think youre looking for too many options at once: preferring an external bearing bb, silver color, and 144 bcd. Idk if youre going to find all 3.

Right off the bat, it seems that more of the "sleeker"/"classic" looking cranks these days are marketed a little more toward the street riding crowd, and have 130 bcd. Cranksets with 144 bcd seem marketed a little more toward the actual track-riding crowd, and aside from the "classic" mainstays such as dura ace, sugino, or maybe campy, most track-riders don't mind the beefier look, because that beefy look also means beefy stiffness. Anyway, I'm sure dura ace, campy, and 75s are nice, but they are stupid expensive.

If you really want a sleeker looking, 144 bcd crank, I suppose you can go for one of the more expensive options (or maybe used?), but if you don't want to drop nearly double the price, I'd just get omniums (or maybe the origin8s pro tracks, or all citys if omnium clearance is an issue) and deal with them looking slightly out of place.

EDIT:
oh, also those external bb cranksets that mystic rats posted, I just noticed the bolt on the non-drive-side crank to tighten it to the spindle. What's the deal with that? Is there still an actual crankbolt to hold the non-drive-side on, too, and why didn't any of those manufacturers opt for a deeper spline pattern?

If I could deal with a smallish ring and ride 170s, I'd be all over these bad boys. The proprietary chainring attachment is a much better solution than the typical configuration and guarantees a perfectly centered chainring. I will assume the machined chainring is also perfectly round.

It looks more "classic" to me than the sram options. Although it's not traditional "track" style, I think its the best single speed option available.

Being a smaller company, it may not take too much convincing to have them make some shorter crank arms and a run of larger rings.

EDIT: Oh snap! Didn't realize they made these https://www.whiteind.com/cranks/roadcranks.html

I prefer the look of the mountain version though...

I don't think the Omniums look that out of place.

All of the cranks shown above look more like the Shimano style crankset. I can't think of anything else similar to the Omniums besides the Omniums or s300 or something.
