sidi or specialized shoes?
i am leaning towards the specialized pro road shoes but everyone i see has sidis. should i forget the mass appeal and go with the specialized?

i bought sidis and they don't fit well at all and now i'm out trying to buy a better insole. Lesson learned. BUY WHAT FITS YOU NOT WHAT THE MASSES LIKE

I tried specialized shoes. Their stack height is ridiculously high, and the holes are drilled far back into the soles compared to my older sets of shoes. I sold them on ebay because of this.

What everyone said is true, it is about fit. However, I have tried Sidis and Specialized shoes and the Sidis fit me much better, my experience may be different. Sidis just feel better than any cycling shoe I have ever tried.

I have tried both Specialized and Sidi shoes, and the fit between the two brands is worlds apart. I ended up with Shimano because they fit my feet better. If you use any other reason, you have some pain to look forward to in the near future.

I tried Shimano and Specialized before getting my Specialized BG Elites. Can't speak for Sidi's, but Specialized fits my feet really, really well. No hot spots, no numbness, really comfortable.
Try a few different pairs of different brands on and pick the ones that fit the best.

a word to anyone who's shopping for shoes.. the insole that comes with the shoe is crap in 90% of shoes. get your own insole and you will be much happier with your purchase. i use asics insoles from my running shoes but there are many other options available, including some custom moldable ones.

From what I know...Sidi's for narrow feet. Specialized for wider feet. I wear Specialized, and feels better than anything I've tried. That includes Pearl Izumi, Shimano, Sidi's and Specialized.

I use and like Specialized shoes alot. However they changed their sizing a year or so ago and they don't fit me as perfectly as they used to. The days of just knowing that a 47 was perfect are over. I had to experiment.

To the OP, as most have said, go with what is comfortable for you. The downside is that you will likely have to go to (and hopefully have close to you) several different stores to try the shoes. Also, the manufacturer might work with you too, if you find a particular shoe that you might want but the store doesn't stock it. Sidi just sent a couple of pairs of 6.6s for me to try, and really took great care of me.

fit including a real insole.
i have both a pair of Sidi and Specialized that I am using with Sole mold-able insoles and can wear both pair. I do wear a half size larger in the Sidi.

I was using a pair of Specialized Pro road shoes for about the past 6 months, and found the fit on the bed of the foot to be great. It felt very firm and did a great job of aligning my knee and ankle.
However, I couldn't solve a problem with numbness in my right foot. I tried shimming and custom insoles, but couldn't ever get it quite right.
I just switched to a pair of Sidi Ergo 2's, and they have an entirely different feel to them. They fit more snugly, and I feel like the pressure from the straps etc is more evenly distributed. I prefer the uppers of the sidi's, but the footbed doesn't cradle the foot as much. That's using the stock insoles, so custom insoles may help with this.
Shoes are so personal that I think it's hard to say without trying your options. They're both great shoes if they work for you.
