West to East -- almost all dirt tour?

Hello Folks,

I'm not sure if this is my first post but I'll wager it's close. Has anyone done or mapped out a full run from SF to the East Coast on dirt (point of termination inconsequential)? Does such a route still exist? It doesn't have to be perfect, I'm not playing the purists game here, just a trying to get close to the sweet ride.

Paul

There is a route that some motorcyclists use. I don't know much about it, but you might check out https://www.transamtrail.com/

I'm hoping to push it North and pick up Iowa and Kansas but it's great to know it's still possible to go Stage Coach in the dirt and cross from West to East.

Does it have to be East/West or would the Great Divide Trail meet your needs?

Thanks, the Great Divide I was familiar with but I'm more interested in a lateral bisection of the USA.

I don't know, but you should also ask the folks over at https://www.bikepacking.net.
There is so good route info there for offroad touring.

Great site! I hadn't run across "bikepacking" in my previous searches. I think I'll start out with their "Arizona Trail" route to see if I like it and want to ride the big ride.

I would recommend not doing that. Its not completed. You can't bicycle in the grand canyon. and some portions of the trail are very hard to cycle on.

Why not just pick your favorite Forest road? Flagstaff and Payson has some great routes.
