just spoke to a friend for the first time in a while.
just before christmas, when europe got pounded with snow, he noticed that his neighbor was trying to get his van out of some snow.
he offered to hep the guy, by giving a push. what he didn't know was that the neighbor had put some tiles under the wheels, to try and get traction.
after a couple of pushes, the van moved.
so did the tiles.
one of which was shot into his leg.
as he described it, half of my leg was dangling off.
9 weeks later, and he can now put 30% of his body weight on the leg.
the neighbor has yet to visit him.
moral of the story: no good deed goes unpunished in clogland.

I'm on day 11 of this migraine. Worst I've had since my most recent concussion. After some fighting about some problem with the referral (Insurance: "We can only take care of this today if it's an emergency." Me: "I've had a headache for 10 days, this is an emergency!") I saw my neurologist yesterday.
So now I'm blasting it with a combination of three different painkillers twice every night, followed by eight days of steroids every morning. I am hesitant about the steroids because of the side effects, but my teammate has taken them before for asthma and said I should be fine since it's short-term. At this point I'm willing to try just about anything up to and including a bullet in the head, though, so I'll take it.

The three legged cat my wife trapped/rescued and adopted turned out to be one of those russian brides of the feline world. We now have 3 kittens. One thing I didn't know was that they performed c-sections on cats.
I have a bad feeling about the wife and daughter giving them all up for adoption.

my suggestion would be:
make it as difficult as possible for the city to profit from this. if you get a central park ticket, fight it tooth and nail. never plead guilty. always go to court. tie up the courts as much as possible. make them work overtime. find every little tiny nitpick you can to get the ticket thrown out. force the officer to show up and defend his decisions.
etc

Regardless, i've changed my training regimen to go around this. Fortunately, open roads are 20 minutes away, i just have to get up early enough, do my work out, and get to work ~10am

yeah. That's a good plan. I also don't think you should get the $240 ticket that drivers get for running a red.

Time to go ride the TT contraption and wish I was decent enough to merit buying Ex's spare frame.

Boat or plane would seem to be the obvious choices. Depending on the polar ice cap it would be possible to do a land crossing using a variety of land vehicles, but it's going to be very tough logistically. If finances are the issue you could probably find work on a freighter or other cargo vessel, and with your shaved legs becoming a flight attendant isn't out of the question, though I can see your attitude becoming a problem from the outset.

crashed on my ride today.
after a little local climb, you have to take a couple of sharp corners through a housing development. I approached an odd off camber 90º left the same way I always too, relatively fast, in the drops, etc. There was some water from melted snow in the corner, but I didn't even think about it. Hit the apex and tires just lost grip. Thigh ass a 6"X6" scrape and my elbow is also scraped. Thankfully road rash in the only injury, I'm very thankful I didn't break anything. stuff happens.
oh yeah, to anyone in my expository writing class, sorry I didn't shower after my ride but health and wellness can't see my until after class and there's no way I'm showering with this much exposed flesh.

I love NYC but I appreciate it more now that I'm out of its jungle. It's nice to look out my window and see the midtown skyline because it's close enough to appreciate but far enough away that I don't deal with the noise and congestion.
