Tangled up in...here

Which might ring a bell to the many Bobcats in here

Not much music in the cafes at night, but teargas in the air

I posted a while ago about possible retirement plans - well, maybe sooner, I feel

Money's the biggest coward and leaves first, they say - well, I cleared all accounts here this afternoon except for enough for a big bribe, ticket and taxi

I guess the hospital's a bit busy, and I won't be getting my leg fixed here anytime soon. You got any room in Santa Cruz, Californians?

Sorry to hear about it. I was just reading about the unrest in Bahrain.

I don't know about Santa Cruz, but the snow has just left Arkansas and the economy is stable.

Good luck and keep you head up. I can't imagine what it would be like in your geographical area at this time. We have family friends who moved from Cairo back to Paris leaving everything behind.

Hey wobbly, At least you're on the road headed to another joint.

From one Bobcat to another:

Every step of the way we walk the line
Your days are numbered, so are mine
Time is pilin’ up, we struggle and we scrape
We’re all boxed in, nowhere to escape
City’s just a jungle; more games to play
Trapped in the heart of it, tryin' to get away
I was raised in the country, I been workin’ in the town
I been in trouble ever since I set my suitcase down
Got nothin' for you, I had nothin' before
Don’t even have anything for myself anymore
Sky full of fire, pain pourin’ down
Nothing you can sell me, I’ll see you around
All my powers of expression and thoughts so sublime
Could never do you justice in reason or rhyme
Only one thing I did wrong
Stayed in Mississippi a day too long
Well, the devil’s in the alley, mule’s in the stall
Say anything you wanna, I have heard it all
I was thinkin’ 'bout the things that Rosie said
I was dreaming I was sleepin' in Rosie’s bed
Walkin' through the leaves, falling from the trees
Feelin' like a stranger nobody sees
So many things that we never will undo
I know you’re sorry, I’m sorry too
Some people will offer you their hand and some won’t
Last night I knew you, tonight I don’t
I need somethin’ strong to distract my mind
I’m gonna look at you ’til my eyes go blind
Well I got here followin' the southern star
I crossed that river just to be where you are
Only one thing I did wrong
Stayed in Mississippi a day too long
Well my ship’s been split to splinters and it’s sinkin' fast
I’m drownin’ in the poison, got no future, got no past
But my heart is not weary, it’s light and it’s free
I’ve got nothin’ but affection for all those who’ve sailed with me
Everybody movin’ if they ain’t already there
Everybody got to move somewhere
Stick with me baby, stick with me anyhow
Things should start to get interestin' right about now
My clothes are wet, tight on my skin
Not as tight as the corner that I painted myself in
I know that fortune is waitin’ to be kind
So give me your hand and say you’ll be mine
Well, the emptiness is endless, cold as the clay
You can always come back, but you can’t come back all the way
Only one thing I did wrong
Stayed in Mississippi a day too long

*******
get safe

You friends are all so kind

And I posted not out of any concern for personal safety - don't feel that I'm in harm's way - but just that a change is going to come, and so I might have to shift a bit quicker than I'd planned

Still going cycling tomorrow. Still minimising the steps that might have to be taken before a quick out. Still at work organising about 30 million US next year to place bright young Bahrainis in US, UK, AUS universities to manage future national wealth. Still don't think I'm the target.

Funny old world, though, no?

Oh and, in case the news media - "If it bleeds, it leads" - is getting overwrought - well, 4 killed by police is heartbreaking, and a lot less than daily traffic carnage

From one Bobcat to another:

I was concerned about you since I heard the news yesterday. I was going to send you a PM, so I'm glad you posted an update.

My daughter had a friend who had just gotten to Cairo to begin his college junior semester abroad when their protests started, and he had to come back. From what I hear, it was quite a fiasco getting him here.

You know a good doc in Santa Cruz?

Best wishes that all goes well for you our bike rider friend : )

Thanks for the update.

Last night I was wondering how you were doing and if the situation was really as bad as the press is portraying it to be.

Please, stay safe!!

Keep riding if you can, but if a tank or an APC cuts you off, absolutely no middle-finger salute in response.

Good advice there, and no "Taking your lane to force them around you" either.

Just talked to the in-laws and they said Albany is available. And you can visit your daughter!

We have lots of room her in So Fla (well, maybe not so much) but the weather is GR8!

It's not dark yet, but it's getting there

Police and troops withdrawn. Described as a wish to show restraint. Now, angry people filling the centre of previous protest, with no security forces present. Anti-personnel radio guided batteries within 5 miles... but I'm not sure that's relevent. Really.

Don't want to meet trouble half way, but....

I did 85 kms this morning on my older lugged steel bike. Felt like riding a stepladder!

Rode past protesting walkers with posters, and tanks and security police. Smiles and waves from all. This is the kindest and most genial and well mannered place

But

W.O.G.

It sounds as if you live very near the areas of the protests. Do you worry about the clashes turning violent quickly even as you ride? I have been following the unrest occurring throughout the mideast. I find it amazing how the social media, like Facebook and Twitter, have enabled protesters to organize on such a large scale. The world is certainly changing!

Wobbly -

There is *always* room for you in Santa Cruz (though it's been snowing pretty heavily in the hills the past couple of days)
Just remember - Don't you let nobody turn you 'round. Just keep on walking, marching to the freedom line...

Yeah, Little Rock only got 6" though. It was pretty the day it fell, and I ducked out to Phoenix the day after, so I missed most of the icy road horror. Everything had melted by the time I returned.
