for the record, these hills (seattle) aren't a joke. Should be exciting in the rain. Time for a front disc on the commuter

Finally, after lots of research and waiting for delivery, I have all the pieces to convert my old Bianchi to an e-bike. I have a 36V-12Amp, rear, geared, brushless AMPED motor with controller and a Chinese, 36V, 350-500 Watt, LiFePo4 battery and charger. Now I need guidance on exactly how to connect all the pieces. The battery and controller have different types of connectors. I want to avoid putting things together wrong, I have read to many horror stories about frying motors and controllers. I live in Federal Way. The local bike shops that sell their own e-bikes refuse to respond to my pleas for help....any ideas who I can contact for some help?.... j

I am in Seattle, Capitol Hill to be exact and am commuting to Kent for work...just started after a long 2 year break. I was previously in Raleigh, NC and commuting everyday there for 3+ years.

jterribili, see you on the trail. I commute from Kent/Auburn to Seattle.
Will you head down to the Interurban and coast into Kent?

hey Dave! yeah, I head through downtown Seatlle, ride along Alaskan & E Marginal, over to the Duwamish, then Green River and then hit the Interurban. Unfortunately, I work at the top of 277th, so I have quite a hill to climb. So far just been doing one day per week (and then a longer weekend ride) to get myself back into it gradually. I will ramp up to two days starting next week, I think, and then hopefully get to three. We'll see what happens after that. What way do you head?

I usually start from the Supermall and ride the Interurban all the way through to the Green River trail then up through Boeing on Airport Way and into Georgetown. I am trying to get out there but it has been way too cold for me(except for a few weekend days). May is bike-to-work month and I will force myself to ride every day as I did last year, maybe even start from Sumner which would make for a 30mile commute one way. From 277th I am on the trail about 4:30am and off the Green River by 5:20. So if you commute on those trails at that time you may see me.

I'm up on Whidbey Island, just got back into bicycling and currently have a 20 year old Mt Bike I've done a few minor conversions on for road use. I hope to have a good road bike or even a touring bike towards the end of the summer, gotta get the body back in shape first.

I've been lurking around this forum for a couple months now. Thought I'd check in. I live in Everett, WA. Been riding 2 years now. Started after I retired in 2009. Got myself a hybred just to see if I would like it. Well now Im riding a 2011 Specialized Roubaix SL2. Ive done every thing I told my son I wouldn't do. Bought the CF bike and wear spandex. Funny how riding with the proper gear makes it more enjoyable.

Ed here. 50+ Clydesdale. Live in Salem, work in Eugene. A little far to ride unfortunately. I try to get some occasional road rides in at lunch, or weekend mornings. 3-hours of commuting daily really cuts into ride time. Try to get to BRMBA in the summer and ride with my son.

I'm about 30 miles from Seattle. I bike everywhere (no car) and race at the Marymoor Velodrome.

I'm Erik or Wrek(lifelong nickname). Live in Bremerton, WA and work at the shipyard. I commute to work from my house in East Bremerton... Only about a 4 mile commute each way. Usually do some weekend and afternoon riding around the area also.

I'm out in Falls City, OR and commute to Dallas to catch a bus, most days. I've been on the commuting forum for some time but just noticed this intro thread. I generally get off the bus early to get in longer rides on the way home, but my minimum commute is 9 miles one way, hills and gravel and pavement.

Gresham, OR. Ride on the Springwater and Fairview Gresham trail to work on a regular basis; still kind of a wuss about riding in rain. Long rides on weekends for fun and train for weekend bike-camping trips.

I live in Eugene, OR. I used to road bike quite a lot back in the late '70's early '80's in MA and upstate NY. I lived on Capitol Hill in Seattle just after NY/MA. That was my last real biking.
I recently pulled out my old Fuji 12 speed and I'm excited to get back to it. I'm glad that I still have my old bike. I just have to put drop bars back on it. I had a bad back for a while and put converter it to upright bars. I'm healthier now and it's time to put her back in shape. I'm having a hard time finding a bike shop in town that doesn't want to put a modern stem on though. I would much rather keep the original Fuji stem. Now I wish I had kept the old bars. Little did I know that things would change to the point they would no longer be available. Any ideas?

Simrat, Your bike coops in Eugene are a distinct possibility, and Craigslist is often helpful, too. Very likely you'll be able to get some advice from a bike club meeting. I know at my bike coop there's a hefty bin of pulled stems to sort thru.

The original stem is still on it. It's the bars that I need to find. The bike shop wants to change out the stem to a modern one to accommodate new bars. That's what I don't want to do. I'll ask around about bike clubs. Thanks!
