Actually I used to think naming a bike was stupid as a bike is... well an inanimate object however since I got my Landshark, I affectionately call it the "Hello Kitty" or "Hell Kitty" bike because of the colors and design (it's very pretty and girly).
My other bikes have remain "just bikes"....

I have named every tuba I've ever played on as well. When you spend as much time on your bike (or in my case, with your tuba) you do some strange things. Like giving them names that reflect their "personalities."

My wife named my old Sirrus Lucky, as every time she asked me how my commute or ride was, it would start with "Lucky I survived the traffic.." or "Lucky I didn't blow a nut on that hill.." It was quickly "Lucky and I ..."

A Surly named Laika Pilgrim
I named my Surly CC, after almost a year of riding it. Nothing came to me in all that time. I took it on tour this summer, mostly up the California portion of the Sierra Cascades, and I grew to know it intimately. We'd gone through the good and bad, together. Its name is Laika Pilgrim. (pronounced Like a)
Laika is from the Arcade Fire song Neighborhood #2 (Laika), also known as Into the Wild because it was on that soundtrack. Well, Laika was the first dog to go into space, and a Soviet dog at that, haha...and I guess he didn't make it back. It's also a double entendre of sorts, as in "Like a."
The Pilgrim part came from Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughter House Five which I read on tour, a kid volunteer camp host from Michigan gave it to me in Yosemite. The book was just all right, I expected more of a master piece from Vonnegut who I'd heard so much about. Well, the protagonist--if he can even be called that--is named Billy Pilgrim. The word pilgrim kept floating around in my head and I just put them together: Laika Pilgrim.
And that is a good name! I didn't name the bike out of any sense that I had to; the name just came to me.

I named my Schwinn World Street 'Clyde' - short for Clydesdale. He's my workhorse / commuter / errand-runner. Also, he weighs about 40 lbs - twice what any self-respecting road bike should weigh, so he earned the moniker two different ways.
My N+1 that's currently in pieces (some of which are not yet in my possession) is a work in progress. The project name is 'Concorde', since the purpose is a long-distance bike that just might take me to France in 2015. However, with the frame I picked, I'm going to have to come up with a patriotic name. Perhaps Revere... I'd pick Dawes over Revere, since he actually rode further, but it's the name of a low-end brand of bike frame, and I wouldn't want there to be any confusion.

You gonna eat that?
My '66 Raleigh DL-1 is The Old Gentleman. That name seems to have stuck.
I named my '73 Varsity The Great Pumpkin, a friend called it Orange Julius. I call it the Varsity.
My '83 Raleigh Super Course has yet to inspire a name.
I sometimes call my '94 Nishiki hybrid built up as a commuter The Daily Grind, but usually its just the commuter hybrid.
I named my 2009 Schwinn Cutter The Black Dog, but that hasn't really stuck. It's simply the Cutter.

I call my Fuji "Fuji" and the Bilenky "Blinky." Not too imaginative.
The Randonee is "Pig." Short for "Iron Pig." So named because I got this one 10 miles into a tour, and with front and rear panniers and a bar bag, it handles like a pig. (I guess, I've never handled a pig that wasn't already butchered...) It started out as a deprecation, but 4,000 miles later, it was an affectionate name for the beast that carried me and my load all that way, up hill and down, through heat, cold, wind, and rain, without any real problem. Except that when parked with the kickstand down, it turns until it finds a direction it likes.

I named my 33-year-old Schwinn LeTour 12.2 "Rusty" after decades of ownership. [Actually Rusty is in great condition, dusty not rusty, low miles.]
Rusty gave my 2006 Specialized Ruby Pro her current "RAGBRAI gang name" of "Rhubarb" right before we went to Iowa last year. The name stuck. The Ruby bike model name is already a play on words with the Specialized Roubaix men's equivalent model.
Rhubarb is a deep red color; kind of tart, offbeat and quirky; yet dependable with a good heart.

Of course I did! Her name is Edith. Edith, after Edith Piaf, the French singer from back in the day. Edith is a Globe Daily 11, so she's elegant, and refined (no loud labels for her).

I'm a Firefly fan, so my Trek pure is called "Serenity"- appropriate because it's not fast or fancy, but gets me there. I have a blue hybrid that I call "Liberty", maybe because it's lighter than the Pure, and is contributing to my activity and weight loss.

I should mention if the surly gets an extra 4 pounds of crap bolted on to it. (maybe a front rack, and whatever else) I might re-name it "The Answer" since it'll weigh 42 pounds....

I've got a few bikes:
The mountain bike is just called 'the mountain bike.'
My old custom road racing bike is called either 'my road bike' or 'my Cyclops' (the company/frame builder who built it) or 'Sidney.' I guess this is the only one I have actually given a 'name.'
Mt commuting bike is called 'my touring bike.'
My new commuting bike is called 'The Torino 76'
My hybrid/touring/grocery bike I call 'my curved frame hybrid.'

I name all of my bikes after an epic session. Until that epic session has happened, the bike is just called (type of) bike. My road bike is named Sam after a long lost GF, and has had the name since my first metric. My Hardtail is named "D" after my weekend of 58miles of single track.

My new road bike's provisional name is Antipodes. That's not entirely appropriate, but...
