Another silly poll - Tell us your most recent BP reading

Just for fun - what are the BP ranges in the 50+ group? I realize it won't be "exact" - but choose the one that seems closest.

Seems to be a not-so-popular poll!!

It is always fascinating to see what things get responses and what do not.

Well I voted because I thought the results would be interesting - if we got a big enough sample...

Maybe you're being shunned for starting 2 silly polls within 24 hours.

I'm doing an experiment right now. I'm taking CoQ10 and measuring my BP every morning at the same time. So far, after almost 3 months, no obvious effect. The lowering effect is supposed to take 3-4 months.

My BP varies all over the map from one day to the next, so that masks any trends.

+1 on the CoQ10. It took a while, but I feel less stressed and my resting heart rate has dropped 5+ bpm and my BP has dropped to a more or less normal range....

This really is a silly poll. Mine is around 130/70. Bt what does that tell you, or me, except that I am not acutely hypertensive? I really think that this sort of thing does nothing but increase people's neuroticism about their health.

Just checked it today: 123/73. I don't know about making me more neurotic, it simply tells me what my BP is today. Much better than finding I have none at all!

OK

And to me, it is most interesting to see the remarkably low (so far with 36 responses) BP's of a bunch of 50+ bicyclers (and other fitness activities) - a testament to me (and hopefully all of us) of the value of the exercise we do. My guess is that our BP's are far below the averages of the general 50+ population.

Perhaps there is some self-selection in reporting, but - still . . . .

I don't think that is silly at all, actually, despite the title I placed on this thread.

But, thanks for your input.

111 / 71 as of this morning. I am very pleased with these numbers because before I started cycling and changed my diet I was pre-hyper with numbers at around 140/90.

The latest guidelines show 140/90 to be hypertension, 130/80 to be high, and 120/80 to be the top one should have,

I voted 110/70, but my diastolic is actually about 10 points lower than that.

Dunno; my doctor told me when I had my latest every-5-years-or-so checkup about 6 months ago, but I didn't pay attention. He said it was OK. I guess I'd pay attention if he said it wasn't.

114/77 just now. Any single reading is not too meaningful, but we know that.

Does not mean much to a lot of us in good shape--you should only compare it to your own personal previous readings.

Because if I don't take my replacement thyroid medication the heart rate will go in the 30s and so will my blood pressure go way down!

And I don't like passing out!

Yes, true enough.

However, the cumulative BP scores at one point in time are very impressive, and significant, even if one can not apply significantly to each person individually.

And my secret agenda?

I know there are some folks out there (and browsing forum guests - who can't post) - who have higher BP's - but are not reporting them. If even one of them comes to realize that their BP needs some help, I will be happy!! I know, sort of silly - but . . . .

This is also why I was interested in seeing the cumulative results.
One reference I could find listed average BP for age 50-65 as roughly 131/86.
What is showing so far here is somewhere around 117/72 average.

I have come from a doctor's consultation literally 90 minutes ago. 135/80, on a warm to hot day and after working outside for 8-1/2 hours. My blood pressure reading hasn't changed much in the past 15 years or so after my heart attack in February 1997. My doctor today said it was normal. That's good enough for me.

I am still going for an ECG and blood work later this week, just to ensure that my predisposition to double beats doesnt indicate anything more serious.

Doing a bit of history work and it is amazing the changes that happened about the time new blood pressure and cholesterol drugs came on the market. Not that avarice would ever be a motive, eh?

Mine is 122 over 68. Since Im 73 my doctor is well pleased. Actually when he checks me out, I think he is starting to get impressed with my cycling. It is roughly 100 miles a week. BTW it reduces my type II diabetes a1c to almost normal.

Druged or undruged?
Smoking or ?
Well Fed or Fasting?
Good looking nurse or ?

Bet there are lots of factors to the BP reading.
