Something I find myself doing now every time I ride

Like if I'm just spinning along a path on the way to a trail or something, I've found that I'm now constantly scanning along the path for things like tree roots, dips, rocks or basically any kind of obstacle.

Been on a bunch of rides on the new MTB since I got it about 3 weeks ago and just now realized yesterday that I do this when I ride it, lol.

It's totally different from how I used to ride my roadie, which basically equated to blankly staring straight ahead, like a robot, kinda with a face like this

Yes, i do this also. Always looking for something to attempt, to hopefully increase my mtb skills. lol
Also good to scan a bit further ahead, especially when wet, and muddy, to see if there is an alternative, drier route, or a precipice.....arghhh!

I have spotted deer, mushrrooms, lost multi tools, new paw paw patches, and assorted lizards and snakes along side the trail. Ha I'm probabl dangerous cause I never watch where I'm riding.

DITTO ESW, I have found $40. drill bits, screw drivers a pair of Mongoose sun glasses yesterday. Its fun picking up odds and ends here and there. I follow some power line roads to trails. The guys working out there, Electric as well as a Natural Gas line must leave a ton of tools on their bumpers. I like finding heavy use stuff. I used to hit places where teenagers have their keggars. Find money and wallets laying all around where people seem to be laying around in the dark. Money is mine, wallets get returned. Really fun when I get to tell a parent where I found the wallet.

I need to find some new trails, I know all the rocks around here my name. I've cussed most of them out.

Spotting wildlife is a big part of it for me. Right now there seem to be a lot of coyotes in the development where I live, often visible around the trails or on the golf course at dusk. Keep the cats indoors.

I'm always going to fast to spot wildlife, but the one time I did look over...there was a herd of muskrats throwing up the horns.

Best I've ever found was a complete CD case with about 12 CD's in it. I've also found many tools, never money while riding . We need to make a "Things you've found while riding" thread.

Just did a quick search (didn't try too hard), and didn't find anything. If you find it, post it up please, Thanks.

It may have been "Pre-Forum Software Upgrade". I've had a hard time finding some of the older threads from days of yore.

You have nicer roads than I do. I find I transfer more experience dodging things from biking to work to the mountain than vice versa.

A friend of mine is into the "Munzie" hunting with a GPS. Not my bag. I have found a few things on the trail that turned out to be useful such as a bicycle multi tool, water bottle, and seat bag. To name just a few. It keeps me from getting fixated on the front wheel.

dminor: neither of those, I was exaggerating a tad. It's the lack of fitness at the moment that slows me down more than the ageing frame per se. When I retire and have time for long rides things had better change for the better. I spend time on this forum psyching myself up for that glorious day ....

I took a morning ride off last year only to see the cops recovering the body of a drug dealer being recovered from the trail area. Darn I could have found the scoundrel's carcass.
