How "Big" Can I Go
Just bought an 05 Trek Fuel EX7. So far I love it. Much nicer having full suspension compared to my hardtail. I am curious though, how big would you say I could go on it? I mean, it's not like I am taking it to Utah and doing 20 foot drops, but would a ~5 foot drop or so be too much for the bike to handle? What about taking it to a DH park?
Just curious
Thanks

If your good at landing it should handle drops or gaps just fine. But if you bottom out the shocks with 100mm of travel. Then modify the fork springs and watch the rear shock pressure. I will also tell you to watch the main frames seat tube because the older Treks had a problem of cracking at the weld by the front deraileur mount.

If you're from PA I'd assume you're talking about riding it at 7 Springs, if that's so, you'd be fine, the trails there are too rough. As for durability, that could be iffy. I used to ride a Cannondale XC hardtail. I beat the hell out of that bike and was quite impressed with what it put up with, though I was around 50 pounds lighter. With that said, I had a friend who was 6'"5 and just over 200 pounds, he happened to have the exact same bike and rode it basically the same way and his frame did end up breaking after a year or so of hackishness. My point is that it'll put up with a hell of a lot more abuse than you'd think but breakage is always something that could happen.
