I really want these bars on my hybrid

https://somafab.blogspot.com/2010/12/...-launched.html

I know many vintage enthusiasts among us would consider a crime against bicycle fashion to put lauterwasser bars on a modern hybrid, but I think it would be really comfortable, and look sort of cool.

What do you guys think?

Personally ... I completely hate that type of bars and all types like it.
Handlebars are very specific to the riding style ... pick the one that suits you

We took a "gamble" on "Trekking" bars (butterfly bars) and we found we LOVE them better than "straight or drop" so maybe these bars are the, "one's for YOU", jmho, ymmv!

I tried the Nashbar "moustache" on my Fuji Not for me. These worked much better for ME. https://store.velo-orange.com/index.p...ar-22-2mm.html
But, everyone is different, they make work perfect for you.

The summer of 1964 a bunch of us kids in the neighborhood turned our handlebars over on our old Schwinn Typhoons. It was as close as we could get to an English racing bike. We did go a lot faster getting streamlined, but it made giving girls rides on the handlebars a lot harder.

Looks like these would be just about the same setup. Bars are a totally personal thing and if you like them that’s all that counts. If they don’t work out you can always flip them over.

Soma/Lauterwasser bars are 1) cool and 2) if you like it and works with your riding style then 3) get´em! 4) Send some after pics!

Those look nice. Go for it. They should give you some different hand positions, which is more than I can say for flat bars. Part of the fun of bikes is changing out parts and seeing what works for you.

My thoughts exactly. It looks like a very versatile shape if you don't want to use a drop bar. Just flipping the bar and/or the stem over you can get four different positions on the same bike, and then there's also different hand positions on the handlebar itself. Seems great to me.

Cool bars, try it, if you like it great, if not, sell it and try something else.

I use Nitto Mustache bars, works great for me. YMMV.

Damn this backwoods country, a few sites have some soma handlebars but no lauterwassers, and the moustache handle bars they sell take road bike controls, not mountain bike ones >(

Mate. Try getting non-standard parts in Australia...then you'll know some pain.

I've been trying to replace a lock-out lever that fell off my suntour ncx suspension fork for 6 weeks...of course no-one sells them out here...and the only place I've found online is Amazon UK...who, it turns out, have a policy not to send "sporting goods" to Australia... !!

I think wiggle.co.uk ship to Australia/NZ? I know I've seen a couple of reviews by people from Oz on the site.

I don’t have Lauterwasser bars but over the holiday I was cleaning the shop and remembered this thread and I had an old set of upright bars off a 60’s Schwinn I think that fit the profile pretty well when flipped. The bars were not the common uprights you used to see but a flatter version. I have an old Concord I have played around with over the last couple years, it has a very tall frame and with the seat at full drop just fit me but with drop bars was a little stretched out (top tube) for my liking. So I gave the homemade “Lauterwasser” a try. I liked the outcome of the experiment and in fitting I was able to get the seat moved back to where I needed it relative to the crank and the long frame felt just right with the bars swept back. Rode very nice also. The brake levers are some vintage ones that I reformed the leaver taking the hook out to work allowing them to work on the straight section of a bar. I added some 60’s plastic grips.

Where there is a will there’s a Lauterwasser.

Seems like most of your population is already over here anyway.

I take your point though...its all about perspective.

And to the guy who posted about Wiggle...I'm addicted to Wiggle...my wife hates it...I love it.
