I love Texas
Todays weather was in the 60's this afternoon. That allowed me to go out and enjoy a nice 20.50 mile ride! Its great to be able to enjoy my bike year round and its putting me on track for my weight loss goal. I am looking forward to tomorrows ride and burning more of those pesky pounds!

Yep I agree! It was a little chilly this morning heading out north of DFW but by the midpoint of todays ride I was shedding layers at a high rate of speed.
January and a 58 mile ride used to involve my old rollers, not anymore!

No kidding! We waited until noon for it to warm up, but then had a great 45 mile ride. I'm glad I remembered to put som sun screen on, it was bright today.

Aw man, it was FREEZING today, I had to wear my windbreaker for the WHOLE ride. Those bitter southern california winters man... Hit the road (on the bike) at 8 am, made it all the way down to the beach and there were no people at the beach. On the way back, had a beautiful view of the mountains with a light dusting of snow on top.
I tell you what, I didn't sign up for any of this.

Nice down here in the valley too, but I had a case of feeling burnt out. I spent the day watching a Glee marathon and making necklaces.

While I can appreciate the "winter" weather period you guys get in TX - those summers are a killer! I hope someday to find a place to retire (that is affordable) where there is little or no snow and no summer weather over 90 degrees. Any suggestions?

Yeah, freezing in Cali. Had to be at least down to a chilly 67 average on our ride. Brrrrr!
S'posed to rain today so we skipped our ride,. Think I've seen about 10 minutes worth of showers.

Low 70s and no wind in the valley. Had an absolutely beautiful 30 mile ride.

70° here in N. Texas yesterday. Didn't waste it in the house and got a nice 40 miles in out around the lake and back. One killer hill that beat me the last time and I got up it nicely on this visit. The reward was breaking some speed limits coming down it on the return trip.
Those of us in the south will make up for it in the summer, though.

You gonna eat that?
A good headlight and tail light are the answer for that. Just ride at night. Probably 80-90% of my riding year round is when it's dark.

Gale warning yesterday and 60 mph winds. Calmed down today, but another wind warning for tonight. No riding in my plans.

I've been noticing your "night riders" posts. I just may join y'all sometime. When and where do they ride? I do need to get a better light though. All I have now is an LED light that is good for being seen if I get caught out near dark, but it won't light up the trail much.

Not from me. I will take 105F heat over 50F and below all day long. Doing a 3hr ride in 100F heat sounds much better to me than a 45min ride at 45F, even with my tights and jacket.

Agreed, I can handle the heat better. Nonetheless, I've been buying winter riding gear. I've been out down into the low 40's. Not sure if I'd get out riding below 40, but I'm sure if I lived up north, I'd get acclimated to it just like I have to the heat.

I did 25 miles in 112* heat last summer (with the added heat from traffic it was probably over 120 at red lights). Never again. 100-105*? Sure, I'll ride in that. 110*? I will be at the Y when it gets that hot from now on.

"Oakmonster" ?
If you like chipseal there are some long rollers on FM1187 between SH377 & Old Granbury that aren't as steep but are exposed to the wind. I think it's harder going around the lake counter-clockwise than going clockwise.
Or did you mean a different lake?
If you can get 2 out of 3 good, it's a great bike day in N.Texas. Temperature, Wind, Precipitation/Humidity.
